Week -2
Ans-1:
Objective : To simulate a model of doorbell using a solenoid and to create a situation where the switch is closed for 2 seconds and then released and also to observe the physical movement of the plunger.
Blocks Used : Solenoid, Battery, Mechanical translatonal reference, Electrical Reference, Solver, Simulink-PS convertor, PS-Simulink convertor, Switch, Scope, Ideal Translational Motion Sensor, Pulse generator.
Theory :
Doorbell : When you press a doorbell button, you complete an electrical circuit that allows household electricity to flow through the doorbell's internal electromagnet. The magnetic field generated by the electromagnet is then used to power a mechanism that creates the doorbell sound. Doorbells are low-voltage devices.
Solenoid : A solenoid is a device comprised of a coil of wire, the housing and a moveable plunger (armature). When an electrical current is introduced, a magnetic field forms around the coil which draws the plunger in. More simply, a solenoid converts electrical energy into mechanical work.
Pulse generator : It is an analog signal which has amplitude and frequency with which the input is transmitted.
Scope : It gives the plot of output.
Solver : Whenever we are using simulink and simscape systems simultaneously to solve that we need this block.
Switch : To provide the electricity and to complete the electrical circuit.
Output : The output plot for the displacement of the plunger of the solenoid has been attached. Just because of the electrical interference, there are ripples at starting and the ending of the pulse signal. Hence, the moments of the plunger has been observed and has been attached.
Ans-2:
Objective : To use a thermistor to sense the temperature of a heater & turn on or turn off the fan as per the below conditions:
Temperature source: 20 °C from 0 to 10 seconds, 27 °C from 10 to 30 seconds, 23 °C from 30 to 50 seconds Fan conditions: ON if the temperature above 25 °C, OFF otherwise.
Blocks Used : Signal Builder, Controlled temperature source, Thermal reference, Thermistor, Resistor, Solver, Battery, PS- Simulink convertor, Voltage sensor, Constant, Scope, Display, Simulink-PS convertor, Switch.
Theory :
Thermistor : A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance is strongly dependent on temperature, more so than in standard resistors.
The thermistor works on the simple principle of change in resistance due to a change in temperature. When the ambient temperature changes the thermistor starts self-heating its elements. its resistance value is changed with respect to this change in temperature. This change depends on the type of thermistor used.
0-10 sec tempreture is 293K.
10-30 sec tempreture is 300K.
30-50 sec tempreture is 296K.
and you can see the details in plot of signal builder as below:

Solver : Whenever we are using simulink and simscape systems simultaneously to solve that we need this block.
PS- Simulink convertor and Simulink-PS convertor : These are basically the convertor from physical systems to simulink and vice-versa.
Controlled temperature source : Is to control the temperature so that we can vary the resistor accordingly.
Output : Thermistor to sense the temperature of a heater & turn on or turn off the fan as per given conditions has been performed and results has been attached as below.
