the solenoid is a electromagnet. on passing through the conducting wires a magnetic field is a generated around it which attrects magnetic materials. This Pheonomena is used in the bells. when the bell switch is pressed the currnet passes through the circuit. and pulling the plunger towards the metal portion. this produces the bell sound.
