Week 12:Project-1-Meshing of Door Inner Panel Challenge

Q) Follow the Quality Criteria and mesh the following component and assign thickness:

Target Element Length = 4 Units

S.N Quality Criteria Value
1 Aspect Ratio 5
2 Skewness 45
3 Warping 15
4 Taper 0.5
5 Min. Length 2 Units
6 Max. Length 6 Units
7 Min angle Quad 45
8 Max angle Quad 135
9 Min angle Tria 20
10 Max angle Tria 120
10 Tria % 10

Component :

In order to Mesh the given component, first, we divide the surface into parts then extract the mid surface, and finally mesh it.

We begin with splitting the component into 3 parts.

- First :

- Second :

- Third :

After proper splitting the surface, we begin to extra the Mid surface of the given part, as we can not directly extract the mid surface because of variable thickness, as shown below.

So, in order to extract the mid surface for variable thickness components, we use the offset method, in which we obtain the mid-surface by offsetting the required surface by the average distance between the original surfaces.

Before offsetting, we duplicate the surface and also check the offsetting direction i.e Normal vector.

After extracting the Mid surface, now we begin cleanup of our surface by togging unnecessary lines, using filler and ruler option for missing surface, we also use trim option to delete unwanted extended surface.

After cleaning the surface, we impart all the basic ribs, cabs, and detail to the surface,

In order to impart these geometries to our surface, we follow the following steps,

  1. We obtain the midline between the 2 nonparallel lines,

  2. After getting the midline, we project these lines to trim the respective mid surface

  3. Now for the given lines, we use a ruler to get the required surface

After following the above steps, we get our desired surface.

Similarly, we can provide all other ribs, cabs, and geometries.

After cleaning, we get our required Mid-surface :

Now we start Meshing the surfaces, forgiven meshing criteria

After Meshing, now we have to separate the surfaces according to their thickness and assign the property accordingly.

Hier, we have to create 5 segments:

  1. The shell of thickness 2.8

  2. The shell of thickness 2.5

  3. The shell of thickness 2.0

  4. Ribs

  5. Cabs and Connector

After separating the component on the basis of thickness we finally get our component in which different colors indicate the different segments

Now we assign property and material to the component respective to their thickness.

After assigning the property and material, we finally check for quality criteria and also delete the free edges and provide equivalence.

Conclusion: Here we have produced the Mesh of the component according to their shell thickness and then provide the property to the component accordingly.
