Week 12 Challenge
Mold design for Plastic Knob
Design of Ejection system
- The ejector pins are required to eject the part out of the mold with the support of ejector plate and ejector back plate.
- They move in and out of the core block to eject the part out.
The ejector pins of this mold looks like this
Here D cut pins are there because of the size and shape of ejector pins. Standard size pins have standard ejection shapes.
Design of Sprue and runner
- In injection molding the sprues carries the molten material through the cavity block and lead it to the runner path.
- The runner is designed by the calculation oif the formula to define the size and radius of the runner.
- The air vents are made to protect the part from defects caused due the pressurised air during the injection molding.
The runner and the airvents are designed as shown in the figure
Design of cooling system
- The serial cooling system is introducesd in the in core block as the part is mainly molded in the core block
- The drills for the flow tunnels are made using the hole wizard command, the entry and exit tunnel is made first and then the other paths are made.
