Week 11 Car Crash simulation

Report Week 11 Car Crash simulation

Aim: Perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body. Apply the same conditions as mentioned in the video that corresponds to this challenge.Analyse the total deformation and Equivalent stresses acting on the model.

Procedure:

Choose 3 different value of thickness: 0.3mm, 0.7mm and 1.5mm

Material: Structral Steel and Stainless Steel NL.

Import geometry:

Symmetry region:

Mesh:

Tetra mesh for wall

Triangle mesh for car body

Face sizing 175mm

Final mesh

Analysis setting

Fixed support

Displacement

Result:

case 1:

Total deformation

Equivalent stress

case 2:

Total deformation

Equivalent stress

case 3:

Total deformation

Equivalent stress

Conclusion

case Total Deformation Directional Deformation Equivalent Stress
1 1042.5 47.2 9674.1
2 1036.9 47.1 9616.8
3 1022 49.8 9527.3

From the table, it is observed that maximum total deformation is case1, because thickness is 0.3, it gets deformed easily compared to other cases. The v-m stress for case1 is maximum, because the stiffness is less and the impact force absorbed is more compared to other cases.
