Week 11 Car Crash simulation
Objective:
You have to perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body. Analyse the total deformation and Equivalent stresses acting on the model.
Solution:
-First, we need to open ANSYS workbench and drop down Explicit Dynamics.
-Now, add the required materials which are required to run the simulation.
-After doing that import geometry to spaceclaim and see if there are any abnormalities.
-If there are abnormalities then fix those and open the geometry in mechanical module.

-Now, we need to add the required materials to the geometry.
-Now, we need to assign symmetry to the casr body as well to the wall.
-After that we need to see if there are any default connections made by ANSYS. If there are any then we need to delete those connections.
-Now, we need to mesh the geometry. Where the contact faces will have element size of 50mm and non-contact faces will have element size of 70mm. The wall will have tetrahedrons of element size of 70mm.

-Now, we need to provide the boundary conditions to the geometry.

-Now, we need to set fixed support to the car and give a displacement of 500mm to the wall.

-Now, we need to assign output parameters to the solution i.e Total Deformation and Equivalent Stress.

Conclusion:
the table above we can see that as thickness increases the deformation of the car decreases gradually. Where as Equivalent Stress increases gradually. Also, When we increase thichness of the material weight of the material also increases and thus reduce the efficiency of engine will decrease. Thus, we need to select thickness of the material depending on the safety factor.
