Week 11 Car Crash simulation

Car Crash Simulation in explicit analysis using ANSYS WORKBENCH.

Objective:

To perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body.

Aim is to analyse the total deformation and Equivalent stresses acting on the model.

Material:

for wall;

for carbody;

Symmetry Region:

Just to reduce computational time we cut the material into half along symmetric axis, this help te user with reduction in time consumption for processing.

Meshing:

No of nodes: 2544

No of elements: 5980

Analysis Settings:

The end time for steps is kept to be 1.e-003.

Boundary Conditions:

To reduce computing time we its prefered to fix the car body and rammed the wall on the carbody.

The wall is provided with displacement of 500mm in the direction of Z-axis.

Results:

Case1: 0.3mm thickness;

Total Deformation:

Equivalent Stress:

Parameter Set:

Tabular Representation for comparison of all the three cases;

Conclusion:

From the above table we can observe that increasing the thickness of the material will result in less
deformation.Increasing the thickness of the car body sheet will also account in increase in weight and reduction of
performance of the car.
