Challenge

Week 11 Car Crash simulation

Objective: To perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body

CASE 1: 0.3 mm

CASE 2: 0.4 mm

CASE 3: 0.5 mm

1. Geometry:

2. Material data:

3. Symmetry:

4. Case setup:

i. mesh:

Face sizing is provided at the front area and the mesh is coarsened at the end. The geometry is meshed in tetrahedron.

ii. Analysis setting:

iii. Fixed support:

iv. Displacement:

A displacement load of 500 mm is applied in z direction.

5. Solution:

i. Total Deformation:

ii. Equivalent Stress:

6. Result:

As the thickness of the car body increases, total deformation and stresses decreases.
