Week 11- Assembly Workbench
Aim: To create assembly for CV (constant velocity) joint and quick return mechanism by creating the respective components with the given assembly drawing.
Given input:
- Assembly drawing for CV joint.
- Assembly drawing for quick return mechanism.
SOME IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS
Assembly
- The process ofputting together a number of parts to make a machine or other
Assembly drawings
- Assembly Drawings demonstrate how a number of separate subassembly drawings, detailed parts, standard components and specifications come together in a unified assembly.
- Assembly Drawings must provide sufficient information to enable the assembly of a component.
Bill of materials
- In the assembly drawing above notice the arrangement of the numbering of the individual sub-assemblies, components and standard hardware.
- They are numbered from the bottom of the parts list upwards. The relevant quantities and materials (missing) should also be stated
Top down approach
- Top downapproach starts with entire system and it will be break down into sub-assemblies again into sub systems and again and again till it reaches the elementary part.
- In Top Down Approach I will design the body of the car first, engine, wheels etc… up-to the nuts and bolts
Bottom up approach
- A bottom-upapproach is the piecing together of systems to give rise to more complex systems. Let me brief that by spotting an example of designing a car
- In Bottom-up approach I will design my wheels first and the drive shaft to fit that and i will design or choose engine based on the wheels and finally I will come to the body to house all the components
CV joint
- A CV joint, or constant velocity joint, is part of a drive shaft, the shaft that attaches to a car's transmission at one end and the wheel at the other.
- These joints are designed to be able to bend in any direction while continuing to turn the drive wheels at a constant velocity.
- They are primarily used in the drive shafts of front wheel drive cars
Quick return mechanism
- A quick return mechanismis an apparatus to produce a reciprocating motion in which the time taken for travel in return stroke is less than in the forward stroke.
- It is driven by a circular motionsource (typically a motor of some sort) and uses a system of links with three turning pairs and a sliding pair.
