Week 10 - Project-1

Obj:To extract the mid surface of the given component and mesh the model and assign the thickness for the mesh elemental entity.

Procedure:
Split the component into four quarters for the easy meshing of the component using trim surface from the surface edit.
After solo of the component start working on the one splitted component and extract the mid surface by splitting by offset method.
For ribs and other surfaces use the defillet option from defeat u re option by mentioning the min radius and max radius.
Extracting of the mid surface for the ribs to be done after defeaturing the fillet and mention the offset length bymesuring the thickness.
After offsetting the surface the height variation is found between the two surfaces this to be minimized.
Select line of the rib and and use line drag option from the surface option from geometry tool bar.
Now we can see the extended sufarce projection to the other side of the another surface.
For trimming this projected surface use surface to surface trim option and deleted the surface left after fixing the two surfaces.
The line which we extended to be toggle for easy meshing on the surface.
similarly the ribs which present on the surface has to be fixed on the other surface.
The extraction of the each surface on the plastic component has to be measured accurately and to be made offset.
If we fail for the above case our mid surfaces extracted may not be supportive for the meshing.
After extracting the midsurface the gap between reduced or stitched by using tools like translate or by toggling the surface.
If the surfaced or unable to stitch increase the tolerance value and select the line from the to be made toggle.
similary the the extraction of the whole entity to be done by taking the help of the above methods which will be helpful for extracting the mid surface from the other entities.
After extraction the component is ready for the meshing and take standard as mentioned and start the meshing by selecting the element type and and size.
Check for the quality criteria to be achieved as mention criteria standard for meeting the quality and check the elements if achieved or not.
If not we have several clean up tools like place node elemental optimization etc. which are helpful for us to achieve the element quality.
The connectivity to be maintained between the elements using the replace node option and select the nodes.
Alignment to be done for main ting the connectivity for this we have a very handy tool called align nodes from the geometry node edit option.
After meshing of the component as we are aware that this plastic component has several thickness assign the thickness for it.
Create the material and name the material and create the property.
As we have made offset of the surface by measuring the thickness previously the same thickness to be assigned now for the elements.
The measured thickness has to be given to the property and the elements we have to assign thickness select them and assign the property for that elements.
Now we assigned thickness can be seen by using the option 2D detailed element view option and check for the thickness assigned to that elements or not.
Similarly create the property and select the elements and assign them the thickness by segregating the elements of same thickness.

Result:
From the above procedure we exrmtractes the mid surface of the plastic component of variable thicknessed surfaces and meshed the component to meet the qualify criteria as mentioned and assigned the thickness and material property for the meshed elements.
