Week 10 - Challenge 2- Attachment Feature Creation (Dog House)

Step 1: The entire Class A surface was analyzed properly for any surface discontinuities and other irregularities.

Step 2: Creation of Tooling Axis:

  • A particular surface was identified as a potential surface on top of which the tooling axis was to be created.
  • A point was made on this surface and a line was drawn on that point with it along the y-axis.
  • Draft was checked

Step 3: Creation of Class B surface.

  • An offset of Class A was taken just above it with a value of 2.5 mm.
  • The missing surfaces were made taking offset of those individual surfaces: untrimming them, extrapolating them, and then trimming them together. And finally giving fillet to the edges.

Step 4: Creation of Class C surface.

  • The boundary of Class A was swept part by part with a draft of 3 degrees for the bottom boundaries and 90 degrees for the top boundaries.
  • Then all of these individual swepts were joined together.

Step 5:Creation of Class A+C

  • Class A and Class C surfaces were joined together.

Step 6: Class A+C and Class B were trimmed together.

Step 7: Now this final trim was converted to a solid body using the Close Surface command.

Step 8: Dog House Creation.

  • A surface was extracted and the following sketch was made on it.
  • This sketch was swept with an angle of 1.5 degrees wrt the draft direction.
  • The top was closed using Multi-sections Surface and joined with the swept.
  • This is now thickened with Thick Surface with an offset of 2 mm.
  • The top and side walls were given a draft of 0.5 degrees using the Side core Tooling Axis.
  • This side core tooling axis was created on the same point as the main tooling axis but along the X axis.
  • Edge fillet of 1 mm was provided to the edges.
  • A line was created and extruded and offset by 4 mm. An multi-extract of the inner side of the solid was taken and offset by 1 mm. Now, both the offsets were trimmed.
  • This trim was used to split the solid body created.
  • These surfaces were given a draft of 0.5 degrees. Also fillet of 0.5 mm was given.

  • A similar dog house was created on the other side of the main solid body.

Now both of them were added to the main body using Union Trim.
