Week 10 - Challenge 2- Attachment Feature Creation (Dog House)
AIM :
Create the dog house for the door trim considering the design rules.
DOG HOUSE :
Dog house is an engineering feature used in plastic design. dog house are used as support feature. sometimes other engineering features like snaps, locators, and screw bosses are mounted on them to increase their strength.
Dog house are subjected to draft analysis to prevent breakage of the components during ejection from the mould cavity, dog house and other engineering components are built on the B surface.
OBJECTIVES :
- Create a tooling axis for the given CLASS A surface.
- Create the CLASS B and C surface of door trim using the given CLASS A surface
- Create the final trimmed surface and convert to the solid body using close surface
- Create the side core axis for the dog house
- Create the dog house on the B surface
- Perform the draft analysis for both class A surface and final body
DESIGN METHODOLOGY :
Class A surface means visible surface . it gives an austhetic surface, which is created by the styling by the styling team and gives to the part design engineer to create the part with all engineering aspects.

Check for continuty of the given surface usinf join command, If there are no gaps, then , create the tooling axs.
PROCEDURE FOR TOOLING AXIS CREATION :
- Check right possition for the surface, draw that position
- By analysis which axis should be draw and now extract right surface create mid point on it.
- Create the dummy tooling axis line required direction

Class B Surface :
Class B surface is a surface below a certain thickness from the A surface. This surface that cintains engineering aspects of model.
Create a offset 2.5mm from the class A surfsce then Check the repair sheets, To do the rework and finish.then join the all surfaces.
CLASS C SURFACE CREATION :
The surface that contains class A & B. Create the sweep surface and right tooling axis from the surface class A then join.

FINAL SURFACE :
- To create the final surface join class A & C surface together
- Extrapolate the B surface little bit outward direction to make sure that there would not be any gap with the joined surface
- Then trim the extrapolated Class B surface with join surface
Make the solid part body using close surface.
DOG HOUSE CREATION :
Dog house are designed to avoid sink mark create the CLASS A surface by screw bosses and to solve the length issues when screw bosses which need to be assembled to others components.
Its is also useful when prependicular screw bosses are required on the tooling direction
- C thickness should be 40% of the main wall thickness T
- Minimum width of the dog house is 12 mm.
- Height of B should be 3-6 mm
- Minimum draft for the do house degrees 5 degrees to die draw.

CREATING DOG HOUSE :
- The First step is to create a side core axis.
- I have chosen the normal to-the-point method for creating the side core tooling axis.
- Create the dog house by creating a positioned sketch on the z-x plane. Using extrude or sweep method create dog hose outer walls.
- Now close the top wall using the multi-section surface command.
- Using thicken command in the part workbench, create a solid part of the dog house.
- Give proper draft angles and fillets by considering the design rules.

DRAFT ANALYSIS :

CONCLUSION :
I have sucesselfully created CLASS B and C surface using the given CLASS A surface of the door trim created main side core tooling axis performed draft analysis the components and dog house
