Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
EXPLICIT DYNAMICS OF BULLET PENETRATING A BUCKET USING ANSYS WORKBENCH.
Objective:
To simulate a bullet penetrating into a bucket. By using 3 different non linear materials for the bucket and analyse their behaviour for the same velocity of bullet.
Aim is to find and compare total deformation and equivalent stress.
Material:
For bullet;

For Case1;

For Case2;

For Case3;

Mesh:

No of nodes:2073
No of elements:5967
Method: Tetrahedrons.
Analysis Settings:

Boundary Conditions:

Here, the bucket is fixed at face a using fixed support feature to rigidly hold the bucket in place during impact.
Bullet is assigned with a velocity feature in the negative direction of X-axis of 139m/s.
Results:
Case 1 : Aluminium Alloy NL
Total Deformation:

Equivalent Stress:

Case2 : Titanium Alloy NL
Total Deformation:

Equivalent Stress:

Case3 : Stainless steel Alloy NL
Total Deformation:

Equivalent Stress:

Conclusion:
| Analysis | Case 1 | Case 2 | Case 3 |
| Max Total Deformation | 95.204 | 93.001 mm | 155.7 mm |
| Max Equivalent Stress | 424.4 MPa | 1676.2 MPa | 1327.9 MPa |
1) Maximum Deformation, Stainless Steel > Aluminiul Alloy > Titanium.
2) Maximum Stress, Titanium>Stainless Steel > Aluminum Alloy.
