Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole

REPORT OF STRESS CONCENTRATION ANALYSIS FOR PLATE WITH A HOLE.

RESULTS OF CASE 1:

TOTAL DEFORMATION = 0.00027465 mm (max)

STRESS ( Von mises) = 0.59875 Mpa (max)

0.013372 Mpa (min)

RESULTS OF CASE 2:

TOTAL DEFORMATION = 0.00029713 mm(max)

STRESS (von mises)= 0.58353 Mpa (max)

0.0018017 Mpa(min)

note : 500N force was applied to either of the cases at one face with another face fixed as given in the problem statement.

CONCLUSIONS:

From analysis point of view CASE 2 is preferred as the best to be selected. For the given tensile load , it has comparably same deformation as the other case but has lesser maximum and minimum stresses compared to CASE 1.

From manufacturing point of view CASE 1 is preferred as it has the least number of manufacturing operations to be performed as it has only one centre hole whereas CASE 2 has 3 hole to be bored into the material.
