Week 1 : Exploring the GUI of GT-POWER
Solutions:
1. Explore the GUI of GT SUITE and list down modules available with brief description. (15 marks)
GT-SUITE is a multi-purpose platform with many physical libraries, containing both fundamental and higher-level components. Using these components, engineers are empowered to build system models of almost unlimited variety.
These applications span various industries, and GT has developed, and continues to develop, specialized tools and components for all of them. To see what is available for each industry go to:
- On-Highway Vehicles
- Off-Highway Vehicles
- Marine and Rail
- Industrial Machinery
- Aerospace
- Power Generation
To see all of the applications that have been created follow the links below which are separated into the following categories:
- Integrated Systems,
- Thermal Management,
- Multi-Body Mechanics,
- Propulsion Systems and
- Fluid Systems.
2. Locate following settings:
- Time control flag (5 Marks)
- Time step and solution control (5 Marks)
- Integrator/Solver type (5 Marks)

GT_post processing data can be done it is used for the accesing the data from the results. It contains the different setups like data storage, General,GT_Post_setup_Flow, ODE_Mech, and Scoreboard.
Each setting have a different attributes to run the simulation. We can gothrough all this sections detailed in the below images

Problem: (50 Marks)
Given
- Diameter of cooler inlet and outlet pipe= 50 mm
- Length of the CAC= 1000 mm
- Inlet mass flow rate = 1200 kg/ h at 100 degC
- Outlet pressure 2 bar at 30 deg C
- Calculate the Average heat transfer at Charge air cooler (CAC)
- Calculate pressure drop across CAC
An intercooler is a heat exchanger used to cool a gas after compression.Often found in turbocharged engines, intercoolers are also used in air compressors, air conditioners, refrigeration and gas turbines.

Results:
Avg. pressure across the component/objects is shown in the figure below. The avg. pressure drop is 2.14. over the complete setup.

Information across charged air coolers (CAC) or intercoolers:

The average Heat Flux transferred across the cooler is 0.482 W/sq.m for 1sec time of simulation

The variation of temp across the spatial direction of the cooler for the specified time of simulation is shown below:
The video animation for the same is attached.
The pressure drop across cooler is shown below:
