To study in detail about Staad pro

INTRODUCTION

STAAD.Pro is one of the popular software that is used for analysing & designing structures like – buildings, towers, bridges, industrial, transportation and utility structures

PROCEDURE

1.1 Write the steps involved to upload a .std file through web mail?

Open Staad pro software

Select the option Share from the First window

Select the File name and File location

Click on send mail option

1.2. Name the different materials that can be designed using STAAD Pro

  • Concrete
  • Wood
  • Steel
  • Composite sections

1.3. Is it possible to capture images in STAAD Pro? If yes how?

Yes it is possible

The option is possible using utilize tab

  1. 4. Name the three ways by which you can create a model.
  • Analytical model
  • Physical model
  • Building planner model
  1. 5. Write the steps followed to assign properties in a model.
  • Select properties option
  • Select define option
  • Select the geometry and assign size
  • Select the material to assign
  1. 1. Name any six design parameter involved in RCC design.
  • Modulus of elasticity
  • Density
  • Yield strength of steel
  • Ultimate tensile strength of steel
  • Poission's ratio
  • Effective length factors

2.2. What are the different cursor types available in STAAD Pro?

  • Node cursor
  • Geometry cursor
  • Beam cursor
  • Plate cursor
  • Load cursor
  • Solid cursor
  1. 3. How will you generate different views for a model? State the steps involved.

Go to view tab

Select cubic shape view

Select different views

2.4. Explain the procedure to define a “Simply Supported” condition in STAAD Pro

Select support tab

Select create support tab

Select the support needed or create support

2.5. Name any five topics that you will include while creating DBR.

  • Name & location of the project
  • Construction methodology to be used
  • Quality Control
  • Structural layout
  • Load and load combinations

2.6. Describe the term “Multi material design” of STAAD Pro

The Staad.Pro software can design and analyze a structure for different types of materials such as concrete, steel and timber.

  1. 1. Name the structure systems in STAAD Pro? Explain each system?

Structure System Geometry Loading Deform Joint

Space 3D 3D 3D ANY

Plane 2D 2D 2D ANY

Frame 2D ⊥TO XZ ⊥ TO XZ ANY

Truss 3D 3D 3D Pinned

3.2. Explain the coordinate system adopted in STAAD Pro software.

  • Global Axis : Global Axis is fixed in the coordinate system
  • Local axis : local axis is variable

3.3. Elaborate DBR and its uses.

DBR-Design basis report is the documentation or planning report formation that consists of the design criteria and also considers for the recommendations required to be changed at a later stage, preliminary schedules and cost estimations.

It contains the assumption and specification to develop the project

It will help to avoid the scope and the creep that can derail the project schedule and lead to budget overness

3.4. Explain the different types of analysis options in STAAD pro

  • P-Delta analysis
  • Pushover analysis
  • Buckling analysis
  • Linear elastic analysis

3.5. Explain the difference between Fixed and Fixed But condition.

In fixed condition the node or the end condition are fixed are restrained with the FX , FY, FZ and the moment are also restrained

In Fixed But condition the node are Fx and MZ are released as it is horizontal rolled support

Practical

Create a STAAD Model with the following Specification

  1. A beam of span 16m
  2. Support : Fixed on one end and Roller support(Horizontal) on the other end
  3. A point load of 50 kN at the midpoint
  4. Draw SFD and BMD using software

Step 1:Open the software

Step 2:Create a nodes

Step 2:Create a Beam

Step 2:Create a Support

Step 2:A point load of 50 kN at the mid-point

Draw SFD and BMD using software
