Challenge

Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

Aim

Sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.

Introduction

Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science which capitalizes on the concept of prosperity. Our nature is a abundant with power houses of energy sources like sun, wind, moon, water, earth and fire. Effect of sunrays, flows of winds, pull of earths magnetic field and other such cosmic energy. A good home needs to radiate the right kind of energy

Procedure

Ground Floor

Building Dimension is 11.92m x 9.15 m

  • Bedroom 1 : 4x 3m
  • Hall : 4x 5.23m
  • Bathroom (Bedroom 1) :3 x 2m
  • Bedroom 2: 3 x 3m
  • Bathroom (bedroom 2) :1 x 3m
  • Washroom:1x 2m
  • Visiting Hall : 3 x 1m
  • Dining room : 3 x 2m
  • Kitichen : 3 x 5.23m
  • Storage room : 2 x 3m

Buiding height is 4m

Dimension of column = 0.3 x 0.3 m

Dimension of Beam = 0.3 x 0.4m

thichness of slab =0.23m

First Floor

  • Guest room = 4 x 4m
  • Hall =2 x 4m
  • Study room = 5 x 4m
  • Bathroom (Study room) =5 x 1.5m
  • Common bathroom = 1.5 x 4m
  • Bedroom = 5 x 2.73 m
  • Terrace =5.69 x 2.73 m

Buiding height is 4m

Dimension of column = 0.3 x 0.3 m

Dimension of Beam = 0.3 x 0.4m

thichness of slab =0.23m

Result

We got residential building for the concept of Vaastu Shastra. The dimension of building is 11.92 x 9.15

Project 2

Aim

Assume the sizes of the structural elements (Column, Beam, Slab, etc.,) and accordingly calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code.

Introduction

Structural calculations are an integral part of a submission to building control. Along with the technical designs, they show the building control officers what you are planning to do, and help them assess whether your plans are in line with current building regulations

Procedure

Buiding height is 4m

Dimension of column = 0.3 x 0.3 m

Dimension of Beam = 0.3 x 0.4m

thichness of slab =0.23m

Dead load of column is

Total volume of concrete =0.3 x 0.3 x 4 =0.36 m3

Unit weight of concrete =25 KN/m3

Dead load of column =0.36*25 =9 KN

Beam load of column is

Total volume of concrete =0.23x 4 =0.92 m2

Unit weight of concrete =20 KN/m3

Dead load of column =0.92*20 =18.4KN/M

Self weight of slab is

Total volume of concrete = 4 x4x 0.23 =3.68

Unit weight of concrete = 25 KN/m3

Self weight of slab = 3.68*25 =92 KN

Live Load

Bathroom -2KN/m3

Kitchen - 2KN/m3

Living and dining room -2KN/m3

Bedroom- 2KN/m3

Terrace -3KN/m3

Store room -2KN/m3

Wind Load

As per IS Code 875 part 2 wind load is not considered. Because of the building height 8 m only. As per clause less than 10m height building is not considered wind load.

Result

All individual corresponding loads are calculated as per IS code.
