Week 1 Challenge

Theoritical

  1. 1. Write the steps involved to upload a .std file through web mail?

For uploading a file through Webmail. Follow these steps.

  • Open Staddd.pro

  • Click on the Share Option

  • Enter the Details.
  • Now Click On Send Mail.

  1. Name the different materials that can be designed using STAAD Pro.

The various materials are designed using STADD Pro.

  • Concrete
  • Steel
  • Aluminium
  • Timber
  • Composite Sections
  1. Is it possible to capture images in STAAD Pro? If yes how?

Yes, it is possible to capture in STAAD Pro.

In the utilities bar. There is an option of taking a picture. By clicking on it we can take a picture.

4. Name the three ways by which you can create a model.

5. Write the steps followed to assign properties in a model.

2.1. Name any six design parameter involved in RCC design.

  1. E - Modulus of elasticity
  2. Effective length factor - Kx, Ky, Kz
  3. Poisson's ratio
  4. Yield strength of the steel- Fy
  5. Ultimate tensile strength - Fu
  6. Density

2.What are the different cursor types available in STAAD Pro?

  1. Nodes cursor
  2. Beams cursor
  3. Plates cursor
  4. Solids cursor
  5. Geometry cursor
  6. Member cursor
  7. Plates & Solids cursor
  8. Loads cursor

3.How will you generate different views for a model? State the steps involved.

  • Open the Model
  • Click on View tab
  • Here you will see different cubes. This will specify the different views for a model.

4.Explain the procedure to define a “Simply Supported” condition in STAAD Pro

  • Open the model. In Staad pro.
  • Now click on the supports tab.

  • A dialogue box will appear in the right side. Here you will show the supports Assigned.

5.Name any five topics that you will include while creating DBR.

  1. Introduction to the construction methodology.
  2. Method of analysis and codes referred.
  3. Name and location of the project
  4. Structural layout.
  5. Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC)

6. Describe the term “Multi material design” of STAAD Pro.

The term multi-material design is typically used to define the structure that is designed by implementing more than one structural material. In buildings has different types of material like timber, steel, aluminium, concrete etc which is used for different purpose.

3.1. Name the structure systems in STAAD Pro? Explain each system?

  1. Space
  2. Plane
  3. Frame
  4. Truss

All of these we can define the in geometry, loading, deformation and joints

  1. Space has a 3D, so that it can be X,Y & Z plane in geometry, loading and deformation. Any kind of the joints and restrain can be given to the modal i.e., assign as a space.
  2. Plane the geometry is majorly in 2D accordingly the loading and deformation are also in the 2D plane i.e., mostly X&Y plane and any type of joints can be assigned here in the plane structural system
  3. Frame also 2 dimensional in nature the only changes that the loading is perpendicular to X&Z and accordingly the deformation is also perpendicular again here any kind of joints can be assigned to the frame structural system
  4. Truss geometry can be in any direction. the truss can take only axial load and it cannot have any bending or shear so the geometry, loading and deformation can all be in all 3 planes but when it comes to a joint or restraint it can only take a Pinned restrain where in the translational movement is the restricted one but the moment is release.

2.Explain the coordinate system adopted in STAAD Pro software.

There are 2 types of coordinate system adopted in Staad Pro software.

  1. Global coordinate system.
  2. Local coordinate system.

3. Elaborate DBR and its uses.

The DBR is a module that allows intelligent routing , achieving a distribution to the agents at the right time in addition to other advanced functionalities. This allows you to make a strategy that defines the campaign to be carried out and all the parameters with which it must count. Especially the way in which the interaction with the client is proposed. It helps you to understand where the project is located, who the client is.

Uses of DBR.

  • The DBR will be the perfect tool for improving customer service
  • Administration and management of queue calls to distribute interactions and prioritize
  • It must also give you the assumption and specifications.
  • It gives you the sample calculations for the loading.

4.Explain the different types of analysis options in STAAD pro.

  1. Perform analysis
  2. Linear elastic analysis
  3. P-Delta analysis
  4. Pushover analysis
  5. Buckling analysis

5.Explain the difference between Fixed and Fixed But conditions.

  • In the Fixed support condition, the translational and rotational movement are restraint means end condition where all degrees of freedom are restricted in the horizontal, vertical and lateral movement
  • Where in the fixed but condition we are not restricted in degrees of freedom is a customized end condition where you can release some of the required degrees of freedom.

Practical
1. Create a STAAD Model with the following Specification
a. A beam of span 16m

b. Support : Fixed on one end and Roller support(Horizontal) on the other end.

c. A point load of 50 kN at the mid-point
d. Draw SFD and BMD using software

Procedure:-

Step 1:- Creating a beam

  • Create a new model STADD.Pro

  • now click on the Geometry tab
  • Select the Beam grid

  • Create a 16 m span of beam using the Nodes.

Step 2:- Assigning material properties

  • Click on the Properties Tab.

  • Now click on Define a dialogue box will appear.
  • Now enter the details.

  • You will see the material is assigned.

Step 3: Assign the Supports:

  • Click on the Support Tab

  • Then Click on Create
  • Add the Fixed Support and horizontal roller support.

Step 4: Add Loading

  • Click on Loading tab
  • Then a dialogure box will appear
  • Add Load case 1

  • Now add Concentrated load as given

Step 5: Run the Analysis.

  • Click on the Analysis and Design Tab in the title box.
  • Now Run the analysis.

  • After the Analysisi there will be no Errors and Warnings in the result

Step 5: Draw SFD and BMD

  • Click on the Post Processing Icon
