Week 1 Challenge
Aim :
To calculate the Dead loads and Model the Bridge in Staad.Pro and do the analysis
Given data : Width of the bridge deck is 10.2m. Span of the bridge is 12m. Pier size is 2.5 m. diameter The seismic zone is Zone IV. Wind speed is 47 km/h
Procedure:
1.Manual calculation of the sectional properties like area of the cross section and the moment of inertia of the section is don.
2.Struture is modeled in Staad.Pro with the given conditions 2. Supports are assigned using the option General -> supports -> create -> pinned -> add -> assigned to selected nodes
3.The calculated sectional area and moment of inertia is provided in the propertiesof the generated model using the option general - > properties -> define
4.A super imposed load of the wearing coat and the surface finishes are assumed as 75mm thickness. Assuming the density as 20kN/m3 Load on the beam = 1/2 x 0.075 x 10 x 20 = 7.5kN/m
5.The above structure is analysed to obtain the bending moment and shear foce by using the option Commands -> analysis -> perform analysis Analyse -> Run analysis
6.After analysing the model, to view the results go to post processing-> Beam Maximum Bending moment is obtained by selecting the beam Reports -> section forces -> Moment Mz -> low to high ( for sagging moment) -> ok BM max = -9.751Mton - m Maximum Shear foece is obtained by selecting the beam Reports -> section forces -> Shear Y -> ok SF max = 38.
Above obtained values are used for the design calculations.
