Vehicle Ride
1. The wheel rate depends on spring rate and motion rate whereas spring rate is an independent quantity.
2. Reciprocal of ride rate is the sum of reciprocals of the tyre stiffness and spring stiffness whereas wheelrate is the product of spring stiffness and square of motion ratio.
3.
- For low frequency range high damping is used and for high frequency region low damping is used.
- For compression damping can be less because of storage of energy and while rebound the damping should be more as it is releasing energy.
4. The rear ride frequency must be higher in order to eliminate pitching.
5.
- lower unsprung mass for better isolation in the wheel hop region.
- lower damping for better isolation in the wheel hop region.
6. The purpose of air suspension is to give consistency across all wheels, and there is a lower risk of body roll when turning corners.
7. Sprung mass frequency = 1.072 Hz
Unsprung mass frequency = 11.79 Hz
8. Time lag = 0.1489s
Case 2 provides a better ride frequency in a flat ride point of view.
