Challenge

Usage of Collaborate tool in REVIT

1) Open an architectural template. Using the Manage tab set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

Solution:

Aim: To open an architectural template. Using the Manage tab set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

Procedure:

1. Open Revit and choose an architectural template.

2. Under architectural tab, select grids tool, draw vertical and horizontal grids and rename them.

3. Under the manage tab, select the specific cordinates and set the horizontal grid to 0'0" and vertical grid to 0'0".

4. Save the project by name Building_architectural.rvt

Result:

The project base point has been set and the shared coordinates have been projected.

2) Open another new file but with a structural template. Using the manage tab set project parameters the same as the architectural model. Copy the parameters from the architectural model to the structural template or enter the parameters manually into the structural model

Solution:

Aim: To open another new file but with a structural template. Using the manage tab set project parameters the same as the architectural model and copy the parameters from the architectural model to the structural template.

Procedure:

1. Open Revit and choose an structural template.

2. Under structure tab, select grids tool, draw vertical and horizontal grids and rename them.

3. Under the manage tab, select the specific cordinates and set the horizontal grid to 0'0" and vertical grid to 0'0".

4. Save the project by name Building_architectural.rvt

Result:

The project base point has been set and the shared coordinates have been projected for the structural model.

3) Re-open the architectural model. Using the tools under the Collaborate tab make the architectural model a central model (enabling simultaneous working on the model)

Solution:

Aim: To re-open the architectural model. Using the tools under the Collaborate tab make the architectural model a central model.

Procedure:

1. Open the architectural model saved as Building_architectural earlier.

2. Under the collaborate tab, select the collaborate tool.

3. A dialogue box appears, select "within your network" and click OK.

4. Save the project, a dialogue box appears click yes to save it as a central model.

Result:

The project has been saved as a central model.

4) Create the Grids Longitudinal and Transverse pattern for the project similar to the task done in Week 2

Solution:

Aim: To create longitudinal and transverse grids :

Grids Transverse Grids A, B,C,D, E @ 10’ spacing
Longitudinal Grids from 1 to 10 @ 20’ spacing

Procedure:

1. Open Revit and open a project file in an architectural template.

2. Under architecture tab, select grid tool.

3. Draw horizontal grids A, B,C,D, E @ 10’ spacing and vertical grids from 1 to 10 @ 20’ spacing

Result: The grids and levels have been drawn as shown below.

5) Synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

Solution:

Aim:

To synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

Procedure:

1. Open the Revit project file.

2. After drawing the grids as shown in above question, save the project.

3. under the collaborate tab, goto synchronise with central and then synchronise and midify settings.

4. A dialogue box appears, click OK on the dialogue box.

Result:

The changes have been sychronised.

6) Open the structural model and use the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file.

Solution:

Aim: To open the structural model and use the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file.

Procedure:

7) Under the Collaborate tab, select the grids and levels from the architectural model, and using Copy Monitor try to copy the grids to the structural model. See what happens when the copy monitored grid is moved around in the structural model

Solution:

Aim: To select the grids and levels from the architectural model, and using Copy Monitor try to copy the grids to the structural model.

Procedure:

1. Opem a structural model in Revit.

2. Under the manage tab, select manage links.

3. Load the architectural model in which you have drawn the grids.

4. After loading the link, under the collaborate tab select copy monitor > select link > select the linked project.

5. Copy all the grids from the model.

6. Go to manage tab and unload the linked model.

Result: The grids have been copied.

8) Create another new file with a construction template. Save the new file as a central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model. Under the manage tab, Click manage links to link both architectural and structural files. Save the file and close all the files.

Solution:

Aim: To create another new file with a construction template. Save the new file as a central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model. Under the manage tab, Click manage links to link both architectural and structural files. Save the file.

Procedure:

1. Open a revit file with construction template.

2. Under the collaborate tab, select the collaborate tool.

3. A dialogue box appears, select "within your network" and click OK.

4. Save the project, a dialogue box appears click yes to save it as a central model.

5. Now, under the manage tab, select manage llinks and add both architectural and structural models.

6. Save the project file as building_construction and close the file.

Result:

The desired links have been added and the project is saved as a central file.

9) Are the grids from structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created? If yes the model is set up for project 2. If not work on the shared parameters and linking options under Manage links

Solution:

Yes, the grids from the structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created successfully and my model is set up for Project 2

10) List a flow chart of a project tree set up in terms of Construction model, Architecture & Structure model, in this exercise and understand how many people can work on the same project using Revit simultaneously

Solution:

For the construction model the project tree is as:

  • Site access
  • Logistics and storage
  • Quality control
  • Outstanding contract details
  • Outstanding design-related challenges
  • Health and safety

For architectural model

  • Schematic design
  • Design Development
  • Construction Documents
  • Construction Adminintration.

For structural model

  • The primary objective of structure analysis and design is to produce a structure capable of resisting all applied loads without failure during its intended life.If improperly designed, elements of a structure would fail causing serious consequences such as large expenses.
  • Once the architechtural engineer sets the function and layout of the structure, the role of the structural engineer begins which can be summarized in the following steps to develop a safe, functional and economic structures.
