Challenge

Usage of Collaborate tool in REVIT

1) Open an architectural template. Using the Manage tab set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project

AIM:

To set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

INTRODUCTION:

Project base point:

The project base point defines the origin (0,0,0) of the project coordinate system. It also can be used to position the building on the site and for locating the design elements of a building during construction.

Project shared coordinates:

When you combine multiple models and files in a single project, use shared coordinates to establish the positions of the files in relation to each other. A Revit project has internal coordinates for all the elements that compose the model in a project. Those coordinates are known to this project only

PROCEDURE:

Open Architectural template draw a grid

Go to manage tab select coordinate option >specify coordinates at a point>enter 0

Enter VG command ,scroll down ,expand site option & select project site option>apply>ok

Circular tool which appeared is called project base point

RESULT:

Project base point and project shared coordinates are created successfully

2) Open another new file but with a structural template. Using the manage tab set project parameters the same as the architectural model. Copy the parameters from the architectural model to the structural template or enter the parameters manually into the structural model

AIM:

Using the manage tab set project parameters the same as the architectural model. Copy the parameters from the architectural model to the structural template or enter the parameters manually into the structural model

INTRODUCTION:

Template structure is a structure that you copy & clone to get the real, "workable" structures. Technically, template structures are ordinary structures, containing ordinary issues. It is up to you to designate a structure to be a template and configure it accordingly.

PROCEDURE:

Open Structural template draw a grid

Go to manage tab select coordinate option >specify coordinates at a point>enter 0

Enter VG command ,scroll down ,expand site option & select project site option>apply>ok

Circular tool which appeared is called project base point

RESULT:

The parameters from the architectural model to the structural template copied successfully

3) Re-open the architectural model. Using the tools under the Collaborate tab make the architectural model a central model (enabling simultaneous working on the model)

AIM:

Using the tools under the Collaborate tab make the architectural model a central model

INTRODUCTION:

The central model is the master project file for a workshared project. The central model stores the current ownership information for all elements in the project, and acts as the distribution point for all changes published to the file

PROCEDURE:

Open revit ,reopen the saved file

To create a centre model go to collabrate tab>collabrate option>ok

Now save the file again

RESULT:

Using the tools under the Collaborate tab , the architectural model a central model is created

4) Create the Grids Longitudinal and Transverse pattern for the project similar to the task done in Week 2

AIM:

Create the Grids Longitudinal and Transverse pattern for the project similar to the task done in Week 2

INTRODUCTION:

Grid lines are finite planes. You can drag their extents in elevation views so that they do not intersect level lines. This allows you to determine whether grid lines appear in each new plan view that you create for a project. Grids can be straight lines, arcs or multi-segmented

PROCEDURE:

Open Architectural file created

Select grid under Architectural tab ,pick a line ,give an offset of 2000

Create the longitudnal & transverse grid by clicking the already exisiting transverse & longitudnal grid

RESULT:

Longitudnal & transverse pattern are created

5) Synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

AIM:

Synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model.

INTRODUCTION:

When working on a workshared project, use the Synchronize with Central tool to save your local changes to the central model. To Synchronize with Central: Click Collaborate tab Synchronize panel Synchronize with Central drop-down

PROCEDURE:

Open the saved file

Under collabrate tab, select synchronize with central option >synchronize & modify settings

Click compact central model & give ok

RESULT:

The changes from the local copy to the central file of the architectural model is synchronized successfully

6) Open the structural model and use the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file

AIM:

Open the structural model and use the collaborate tools to save the model as a central file

INTRODUCTION:

Revit provides several different ways to collaborate with team members who are also using the software. You can link multiple Revit models together, allowing team members to work in context. Through worksharing, users on the same local area network (LAN) can work together in the same Revit model

PROCEDURE:

Open the structural file created

Go to collabrate tab>collabrate option>within a network >ok

Now save the file

RESULT:

Structural model is created as central file successffully

7) Under the Collaborate tab, select the grids and levels from the architectural model, and using Copy Monitor try to copy the grids to the structural model. See what happens when the copy monitored grid is moved around in the structural model

AIM:

select the grids and levels from the architectural model, and using Copy Monitor try to copy the grids to the structural model.

INTRODUCTION:

Copy/Monitor is used primarily to copy information from one model to another. This can for example be used by a structural designer at the beginning of their project to transfer all levels, grids and walls from an Architecture model to Structural model

PROCEDURE:

Open the structural model created

To insert Architectural model to the structural model created ,Go to insert tab>linl revit option

To copy/monitor go to collabrate tab>copy/monitor option

Click copy option>select multiple>Finish

To cross check it type VG command ,click revit link, unselect it,give apply,ok

RESULT:

Copy monitored grid is moved around in the structural model successfully

8) Create another new file with a construction template. Save the new file as a central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model. Under the manage tab, Click manage links to link both architectural and structural files. Save the file and close all the files.

AIM:

Create another new file with a construction template. Save the new file as a central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model.

INRODUCTION:

The central model is the master project file for a workshared project. The central model stores the current ownership information for all elements in the project, and acts as the distribution point for all changes published to the file

PROCEDURE:

Open the construction template.

Save the file as construction

To create a central model go to collabrate tab >collabrate option>ok

Now to insert the architectural & structural file created go to insert tab>link revit option>open saved file>ok

RESULT:

New construction template is created ,changed to central model & attached architectural & structural file created

using manage link successfully.

9) Are the grids from structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created? If yes the model is set up for project 2. If not work on the shared parameters and linking options under Manage links
( Hint: origin to origin, by shared coordinates or by project base point to base point ) to link the models in an appropriate manner

AIM:

Are the grids from structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created? If yes the model is set up for project 2. If not work on the shared parameters and linking options under Manage links

INTRODUCTION:

The Manage Links dialog has tabs for Revit models, IFC links, CAD Formats, DWF Markups, Point Clouds, Topography, PDF, and Images. Under the tabs are columns that provide information about the link. Tools to Manage Links. To manage a link in the model, select it in the Manage Links dialog, and use an appropriate tool

PROCEDURE:

Under the insert tab click the manage link & matching the grids by shared coordinate

RESULT:

Using manage link the structural & architectural grids are matched successfully

10) List a flow chart of a project tree set up in terms of Construction model, Architecture & Structure model, in this exercise and understand how many people can work on the same project using Revit simultaneously

The number of peoples work on the same project using revit simultaneoulsy depend upon the type of the project
