Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING:
In Indian road conditions, cars underbody will lead to corrosion and rust due to dust and moisture. underbody coating will protect the car from corrosion and rust for some period of time.it will be sprayed or painted. the underbody coating mostly used on Indian cars and supplied by companies like 3M is a thick rubberized paint that forms 2to 3mm layer coating when it is sprayed underbody of the car, Laquer and Horizon that coats the entire underbody of the car.

WHILE COATING AFTER COATING
MODERN AUTOMOTIVE COATING PROCESSES:
- Pre-treatment process: pre-treatment removes and cleanses excess metal to protect from corrosion of metal and helps the primer to bond onto the metal.
- Electrodeposition Layer: this is the second step in the undercoating process, E-coat that forms a coating film by using electricity and by dipping BIW in an electrodeposition tank.
- Rustproof Coating Sealer/PVC: the third step is sealing the roof with PVC and urethane. the sealant is applied to the internal and external metal joints of BIW.
- Primer: It can be water-borne,solvent-borne, or powder. these primers are used to improve adhesion between the E-coat, Topcoat and provide chipping protection
- Topcoat: the final step of the coating process is to apply for the topcoat two types of coatings i.e clear coat and base coat. Basecoat is a primary coloring pigment and Clearcoat provides a protective coating like environmental effects, corrosion, and UV light degradation effect.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF UNDERBODY COATINGS:
Underbody coatings are categorized on Type of material and Cost of materials
and 4 different types of underbody coatings:
- Rubberized underbody coating: It offers sound cushioning as well as protection from dust, moisture, and rust. Rubberized coating is safe to use on wheel wells and quarter panels and dries with a soft rubbery finish.
- Asphalt-based undercoating process: It offers a high level of protection for heavy vehicles like trucks and machinery. its formularized with rubberized to aid the reduction of a noise
- Wx-based undercoating: It has less life protection wear in fewer months. they drip or flows into seams and cracks to provide protective properties.
- Polyurethane underbody coating: this coating closes up splits and fractures on the underbody of the vehicle.it provides good protection against unoxidized metal and rusty areas.
PURPOSES OF UNDERCOATING:
- Protects against Rust and corrosion.
- Reduces Noise Harshness levels up to some extent.
- Prevents paintings.
- Also adding an extra protection layer aftermarket.
