Underbody Coating
Underbody Coating
since the underbody is heavily subjected to dust, rust, moisture, and debris which leads to corrosion.to avoid this it should be coated with some protective coating which is generally known as underbody coating.it is best to apply the underbody coating earlier before getting into the road. it doesn't mean that it can't be protected after that. The underbody should be properly rust, and dust free before applying the coating. underbody coating is of four type
1. Rubberized underbody coating
it offers a sound cushioning effect as well as protects from dust, moisture, and dust which further leads to corrosion.it is the best among the other coating type.
2. Polyurethane coating
it is the QUICKEST and easiest method of application since it is available in the canister. it uses polyurethane sealant which seeps into the cracks replace alt and moisture and protects unoxidized metals. Before the application of coating, it requires surface preparation work.
3. Wax or Paraffin-based underbody coating
paraffin-based is the CHEAPEST and quickest method available for underbody protection. On the other hand, it will go off earlier compare to other types of underbody coating.
Wax-based is not hardened. It flows into the cracks and acts as a sealant. It can be used as a base coat only.it also available in canister and can be easy to apply.
4. Asphalt-based coating
it is mainly applied on large trucks and heavy machinery.it is heavy protection against rocks, chips, etc. Along with asphalt, it contains some rubberized materials which reduce the noise level while contaminants hit on the undercarriage. It will take 3 times of normal time to become set on the undercarriage.
Pros and Cons
Pros
it product the underbody part from corrosion. corrosion leads to make holes in the parts which leads to leakage of oil, fuel, gas, etc.
it reduces noise
Cons
if the undercarriage is not perfectly rust-free before applying the coating it will also lead to further corrosion and a waste of money.
