Hood design-Week 2
The hood assembly consists of parts like the hood outer panel, hood inner panel, hinge assembly, and striker. Every part should be arranged based on a trajectory so that the hood will function properly.
in this project, we are provided with the skin data of the hood outer panel, hinge assembly, and striker. and also provided with a master section and hemming specification diagram. So based on the hood outer panel, i created the base of the hood inner panel using a wave geometry linker. trimmed the outer panel and made it the reference part for the rest of the modification By using the offset curve in the face tool, i made the flanges and jointed the flanges using swept command via the bridge curve. Then made two levels of embosses and mastic cut out to put mastic sealants. hinge emboss designed to place the hinge assembly. then mirrored the geometry and sew to become one part without any gap in between. using assembly constraints mount the hinge assembly on the hinge emboss. then after did a mirror assembly of the hinge assembly to get the hinge assembly on the hinge emboss of the other side. lach and trajectory hinge axis was drawn with the help of assembly constraints. By using wave geometry striker emboss base is extracted from the striker and emboss was drawn. finally thickened the inner panel to 0.75 mm as per the master section and colored. thicken part is visible and the rest part is hidden.
The outer panel is modified to fit inside the inner panel by offsetting the surface of the outer panel to make a flange and law extension to make covering to the inner panel. since at critical edges, there should be a chance of higher stress concentration. so to reduce that hemming was done. and finally thicken to .75mm. Checked the alignment is right using the clip section view.
