Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING
AIM:
To make detailed report explaining about under body coating, its types and its pros and cons.
THERY:
WHAT IS UNDERBODY COATING?
Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car's underbody. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
TYPES OF UNDERBODY COATING:
*Rubberized underbody coating
*Wax based underbody coating
*Asphalt based automotive underbody coating
*Polyurethane underbody coating
RUBBERIZED UNDERBODY COATING:
Rubberized undercoating creates a protective barrier that seals out grit, grime and moisture that could otherwise corrode the metal components. This extra protection is a low-cost measure that can pay off by potentially extending the service life of a vehicle.it protects the underbody from scrathes and keeps it nicely. it also not difficult to aply this to undercarriage.
WAX BASED UNDERBODY COATING:
Underbody coating is a sparyed application of a wax or rubber based composite onto the entire underside of the vehicle. It is mainly designed to create a rust-proof layer between the underneath of the vehicle and the water, ice and salts of the road.wax based underbody coating is extremely resistant to moisture. it is also most cost effective choice available.
ASPHALT BASED AUTOMOTIVE UNDERBODY COATING:
suitable for lorries, truks, and onther heavy vechiles.when compred to rubber based coating, this gives ahigher level of protection.asphalt based coating,on the onther hand, include a little percentage of rubber in them for sound insulation.the application of thiscoating of this coating, however, takes some time.
POLYURETHANE UNDERBODY COATING:
this covering seals breaks and fractures in the vehicle underbody. it providesexcellent corrsion resistance while also forming a strong connection with the metal. unlike an asphalt based coating, the polyurethane coating may be painted over.
Advantages of undercoating
*fight rust
it hascrucial function in preventing corrosion.under coating is especilly useful if you livr near the sea, where there is a common occurrence. if you live somewhere where it snows in the winter, you should seriouly consider undercoating.
*Absorbs noise
Noisesthat reach the cabin can be muffledwith athick undercoating. the undercoating, which is frequently made of rubber, absors part ofthe rackets. the car occupants could avoid the road sound at least to some extent.
*Reinforcement- If your car comes with stock underbody coating, using another coating on top of it, is not going to hurt. It will offer additional reinforcement, protecting the underbody from water, road debris, gravel and small pebbles. There would also be a lesser chance for the factory coat to flake away.
*Prolong Car’s Life- Good undercoating not only defends the underbody from corrosion but also protects the engine and transmission as well! Less rusting coupled with slower wear and tear can surely add years to the lifespan of your vehicle. There would be fewer dents, dings and scratches on the undercarriage for you to fret about.
Disadvantages of undercoating
* Add Weight - Although the layering of underbody coationg is in micrometers but underbody coating may add some minimal amount of weight to the vehicle's body
Fail to Protect Existed Rust - Undercoating will work best on new vehicles that have not been exposed to road conditions. A used vehicle may already have residue on the bottom of the car or even have spots of rust and corrosion. Undercoating will not help you if corrosion already exists and the corrosion needs to be removed first before it can be applied, which can be expensive.
*High Cost- Applyiing Underbody coating on a vehicle can be expensive.
*Re-application is required after Time- The life span of the coating generaly about 3-5 years, to get the benefit need to reapply the coating after a time period.
