Underbody Coating
Underbody coating:
Underbody coating is dense chemical coating applied on the underbody of cars and other vehicles.
In daily usage cars undergo many harsh weather conditions like rainwater and snow in winter, ruff roads with pot holes, stones etc due to which the underbody of cars start getting rust gradually spread to unaccessable area and scratches which cuases decrease in car life and gets more vibrations and noise due to rusting.
Where underbody coating is protective organic coating is done on underbody so its helps in preventing rust and scratches. It plays very important role in the cars life service. Actually during the car manufacturing the body has gone under protective coating before painting but it guradually wear off . Also in some of the cars the undercoating differs on modelwise and also brand wise. So we have to re apply underbody coating after certain periods of cars usage / before the exposure to the rust , also we have to check regularly the condition of the underbody to protect from rusting .
Types of underbody coating:
- Wax underbody coating
- Tar underbody coating
- Rubber underbody coating
*Normally Rubber type Undercoating for the cars is preferred becuase it protects form rusting as it is rubber material ,it provides noise cancellation as it doesnt wear off due to stones after hitting. It also adds good strength.
*Normally when we compare between rubber, tar and wax, rubber type underbody coating is durable.
*Becuase tar and wax is less durable and wear off early than rubber.
Advantages:
- Prevents from rusting
- Prevents from underbody scratching
- Acts as noise cancellation
Disadvantages:
- It doesnt cure prior rust but slow down rusting.
- After some period it will wear off so You have get done every 2 to 3 years after using
