Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING:
Introduction:
Cars are used to transport one or more people from one place to another. During this travelling the path where it travels may be smooth, hard, muddy, wet, etc,. At all the above mentioned conditions bottom portion of the car will have larger impact over the other parts. So the bottom portion of the car should be strong, corrosion resistant due to wet roads during rain, scratch or abrasive resistant due to hard roads, etc,. To develop these properties to the car, we need to do the underbody coating.
Underbody coating:
Underbody coating is a process of painting the car with non-corrosive materials like zinc, etc,. It is usually done by galvanized material and corrosive resistant alloys to prevent corrosion or rust.
Types of underbody coating:
- Rubberized underbody coating: It is process of spraying a paint with rubberized compound to prevent crack or brittle, corrosion resistant & wear resistant.
- Wax based underbody coating: Process of spray painting a wax based solvents on a underbody of a car to prevent excellent corrosion protection.
- Asphalt based underbody coating: It is a process of applying asphalt (mixture of aggregates, binder and filler) based coatings with thick line up on the surface to prevent moisture, road chemicals and oxygen.
- Polyurethane underbody coating: It is a process of applying two component of polyfunctional acrylic and isocyanate based material to scratch, corrosion and abrasive resistant.
Advantages of underbody coating:
- Underbody coating helps in corrosion resistant during most of the wet and rainy areas.
- Thick undercoating will absorb and reduce the noise to the cabin.
- If we apply underbody coating with already coated, then it will add additional reinforcement to protect underbody from gravel, debris and road waters.
- Underbody coating enhances the car’s underbody life for longer duration.
Disadvantages of underbody coating:
- Underbody coating won’t work on existing cars that have already exposed to road conditions having spots of rust and corrosion.
- It works only on new cars.
- Third party underbody coating might affect vehicles warranty.
- Additional underbody coating might add weight to the vehicle.
- It should be done consistently after 3 to 5 years to for better results.
