Underbody Coating
Under Body Coating : Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to the car's underbody. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
The purpose of Under-body coating is, it is the sprayed application of a wax or rubber-based composite onto the entire underside of the vehicle. It is designed to create a rust-proof layer between the underside of the vehicle and the water, ice, and salt of the road's. Under-body coating provides a more comprehensive protective layer for the vehicle.
There are four types of Under-body coating procedures namely :
1) Rubberized Underbody Coating : Rust-Oleum Rubberized Undercoating is an easy-to-use black rubberized protective coating. It provides corrosion protection from water, salt and other chemicals. Its helps deaden sound and provides a barrier against rust on cars, trucks, trailers and other recreational vehicles.
2) Wax Based Underbody Coating : This (more or less) ephemeral undercoating will wear away in a few months of time. On the upside, wax-based undercoating puts up a big fight against moisture. It is also the most affordable option to choose.
3) Asphalt Based Automotive Undercoating : It is the thickest coating and has the most damage-resistant properties. It can be bought from professional services shops and is the only type of undercoating with a limited warranty.
4) Polyurethane Underbody Coating : This coating closes up splits and fractures on the underbody of the vehicle. It offers up good protection against corrosion and also bonds with the metal. Unlike in the case of asphalt-based coating.
Pros of underbody coating : A good coating can ensure that water does not enter the components and start rusting prematurely. The coating also prevents retention of water within the parts, which can lead to creation of slush. Cons of underbody coating : High cost, the cost of underbody coating has reduced over the years, but it is still expensive.
