Underbody Coating
OBJECTIVE: Write one page about Under body coating and its purposes.
UNDERBODY COATING: In India-road conditions, car's underbody is most prone to corrosion. Underbody Coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car's underbody. It also Protects internal body panel, frame rails & other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.

PROCESS: It involves 4 step process which is explained below as,
- Electrolyte Deposition: In this step, the BIW car body is dipped into the electrolyte bath & rotated with the help of frame rails in such a way that, there is no droplet found inside and every part of the body get electrolyte deposited.
- Draining out the droplet: In this step, after electrolyte deposition, the BIW body is then passed through the heating chamber to drain out the leftover droplets so that body gets dry completely.
- Primer Coating: This is the premilinary coating, in which the dries car bady is dipped into the primer bath & rotated in such a way that every part is coated with primer.
- Underbody Sealant Coating: After primer coating, it is passed through the underbody sealant region, where thick layer of underbody sealing is coated. sometimes, spot welding regions are also closed with sealing so that it gives strength to the joint. After underbody coating, body is sent to the painting region where car is painted.
PROS:
- Minimizes Sound: It minimizes the sound from underneath the car resulting a noiseless, smooth driving experience.
- Heat Insulation: It insulates the interior of the car from extreme temperatures from beneath the vehicle providing a comfortable cabin experience.
- Anti-chipping property: If any stone hits the coating it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.
CONS:
- High Cost: Car dealership often charge quite a lot of money to undercoat a car, and for someone financing a new car purchase, this can add too much to the final purchase price.
- Addition to the vehicles weight: Although it may not seem significant, the added weight of an undercoating can have an impact of fuel efficiency of the car.
