QUESTION 3
AIM
With reference to the input, drawing study the steel building plan and summarize your understanding of the plan. Based on your study assume and explain the location of columns and beams and develop a hand sketch for each plan
INTRODUCTION
The first step of any structural planning is to study the architectural drawing given and to check the various properties like geometry, symmetry, stiffness, redundancy, etc. After this assigning the column and beams is done before planning for the foundation or any other components
PROCEDURE
Columns are to be placed at
- At or near the corner of the building
- The intersection of beam or wall
- Select positions so as to avoid bending moments in the beam
- Avoid larger spans of beams
- Avoid larger center to center distances between columns
- Columns on the property line
Columns should not be placed at places having a door or at places that take away the beauty pf the building or at areas having fewer spaces
