Structural Modelling using Etabs 2018
The architectural drawings for a G+7 residential building in zone 5 has been provided. The floor plan is the same for all 7 floor levels. Possible column positions have also been provided. Conceptualize a framing plan layout and then model the building in Etabs. The following architectural drawings have been provided:
- Typical floor plan – The location and thickness of the brick walls and the use of the
space (for estimating live load) can be obtained from this plan - A building section through the staircase and lift core is provided
- Parking layout in the ground floor – the column/shear wall arrangement must not
obstruct entry/exit of vehicles.
The following loadings are to be taken into account: - Brickwall made of AAC blocks
- Finishes – floor tiles of 75 mm thickness
- Live loas as per IS 875 part 2
- Water tank of 20 KL above the staircase at Mumty level
- Lift Machine room at mumty level above lift core
The structural model must comply with provisions of IS 1893 and IS 13920.
Run a modal response spectrum analysis and check analysis results of the etabs model for inter-storey drift requirements, vertical & planar irregularities, minimum shear wall requirements, maximum axial load ratio for column and shear walls, effective moment of inertia for beams
and columns etc.
Please note that the column positions shown in the architectural typical floor plan are only to provide an initial starting point for modelling. Participants will have to change its size, introduce shear walls, and add new vertical elements after running the analysis. You will have to run the analysis multiple times until a structural model is obtained that meets structural code requirements without compromising architectural functions. Also, there is no one ‘correct’ structural system for this challenge. There can be multiple possible solutions for this problem.
AIM :
To Create a Residential Structural model for a given archietecture Drawing using Etabs.
INTRODUCTION :
ETABS stands for Extended Three-Dimensional Analysis of Building System. It is a sophisticated and suitable special purpose analysis & design program particularly developed for building systems. Completely Customizable Graphical User Interface. ETABS offers a single user interface to perform modeling, analysis, design, and reporting. There is no limit to the number of model windows, model manipulation views, and data views.
PROCEDURE :
- Open Etab software,

- click on new model
- Set model informations and units

- Now set grids as per shown below

- Next go to story add option and set the storey as per requirement

- Now grids were created as per the requirements

- Now go to define>material>add new material
- Add M25, HYSD415,HYSDF500

- Now go to define> section>add section
- Selct rectangular section

- Now add Beam 350*450 ; Column 400*400 ; Column 450*600 ;

- Now go to define>section properties>slab section
- Add new slab of 150mm thickness.

- Now again go to define>Wall properties
- Add new wall of 250mm thickness

- Now using quick assign option, assign Beam Column and Slab

- Now go to replicated option Set all beam as shown in attachment.

- After assign all the elements as shown below,
- Now go to assign >join assignment
- Now go to define> load patterns

- Now select beams and assign the brick wall load on them
- Frame load assignment distribured

- assigning of load as shown below,
- now same as assign the load for all slabs

SHELL LOAD ASSIGNMENT -UNIFORM
- Now go to live load reduction factor and fill the data as shown below

- Now go to define > mass source data

- Now using select option select all the floors and assign shell diaphragm

- Now continous with select option, assign pier labels

- Now go to define load combination >generate auto load combination

- Now check the model

- Selext load cases>define option
- Add new load >response spectrum R1.

- Click on Run Analysis,

- Analysis result as shown below,
- Now go to display >table data> Base reations

- Now select the model participating mass >structural output>tables

- Now open the reaction tab , select the earthquake load toward x direction

RESULTS :
G+7 Residential Building is Successfully Modelated in Etabs.
