Steering Geometry 1

1. Geomteric Parameters calculations:

  1. Caster(`theta`) =`tan^-1` [UCA_KBJ_X/(UCA_KB_Z - LCA_KBJ_Z)]
  2. Mechanical trail = tan(`theta`)*(LCA_KBJ_Z)
  3. KPI(`phi`) = `tan^-1`[(UCA_KBJ_Z -LCA_KBJ_Z)/(UCA_KBJ_Y-LCA_KBJ_Y)]
  4. Scrub Radius = WC_Y - [tan(`phi`)*LCA_KBJ_Z]-LCA_KBJ_Y
  5. KP Lat offset or spindle length =(WC_Y - UCA_KBJ_Y) - [tan(`phi`)* (UCA_KBJ_Y-WC_Y)

2. given : Pneumatic trail of 25mm & Lateral force of 2000N

Ans : Self aligning moment in N-m = Lateral force * [ Mechanical trail + Pneumatic trail]/1000

3. Hardpoint recommendation to change the sign of the scrub radius :

Ans : a) Shift UCA Knuckle ball joint towards right (+ve Y) such that the scrub radius sign changes

b) Shift LCA knuckle ball joint towards left (-ve Y) such that scrub radius sign changes

c) Shifting them simultaneously keeping the space for other parts to keep it compact for packaging
