INTRODUCTION TO VAASTU SHASTRA
VAASTU SHASTRA
- Vastu shastra is the ancient Indian science of architecture and acts as a guideline to design your home in the way that enhances positive energy.
- Our nature is abundantant with powerhouses of energy sources like the sun ,wind, moon, water earth and fire.
- Effect of sunrays, flow of winds , pull of earth's magnetic field and other such energies.
- A good home needs ro radiate the right kind of energy.
- Aperson dwelling in a house comes under the influence of a specific energy fields which comes under the influence of specific energy field.
- Architectural changes are not possible for a ready to move in house.
Significance of eight directions
- For cardinal direction are North,South,East and West
- For intercardinal direction are North- East,North-West,South -East and South West
- Each direction signifies an aspect of life and is governed by various gods as per vaastu shastra.
- North- Wealth
- South -Dharma
- West and East- Overall prospirity
Basic principle of vastushastra
- Shape -Rooms should be preferably be squire or rectangle
- Room basics - Rooms should be airy well it ,bright and clean
- Home center - center of the house should be an empty space.
- Stairs and furniture - Heavy furniture should be an empty space
- Stair and furniture - Heavy furniture should be kept in south west direction
- Water - Avoid keeping plants and water features in the bedroom.
- Dining table -Dining space should be near the kitchen and note near the main door.
- Mirror placement - Mirror facing the bed is strictly not allowed .Mirror in the bedroom needs to be placed in such a way that the bed can't be seen.
Auspicious directions as per vaastu shastra

| Dimensions of column | 0.35m x 0.35m |
| Dimensions of beam | 0.35m x 0.4m |
|
Height of the wall of ground floor. |
4m |
| Height of the wall on first floor | 3.5m |
Dead load calculations
Dead load of columns in ground floor
| volume of the column | =0.35x 0.35 x 4 |
| =0.49 M^3 | |
| Unit weight of concrete | =25 KN/M^3 |
| Dead load of column | =0.49 X 25 |
| =12.25KN |
No of column in ground floor = 6
Total dead load on column = 12.25 x 6
=75 KN
Dead load of column in first floor
| volume of the column | =0.35x 0.35 x 3.5 |
| =0.428 M^3 | |
| Unit weight of concrete | =25 KN/M^3 |
| Dead load of column | =0.428X 25 |
| =10.7KN |
Number of column in first floor =2
total dead load of column in first floor=2 x 10.7
=21.4KN
Total dead load of the column on ground floor and first floor =75 +21.4
= 96.4KN
| Area of the beam | =0.35 x 0.4 |
| =0.14 M^2 | |
| Unit weight of concrete | =25 KN/M^3 |
| Dead load of beam | =0.14X 25 |
| =3.5KN/M |
Dead load of the slab
| Thickness of the slab | =0.25m |
| Unit weight of concrete | =25 KN/M^3 |
| Dead load of Slab | =0.25 X 25 |
| =6.25KN/M^2 |
Dead load of walls on ground floor
| Area of the wall | =0.23 x 4 |
| =0.92 M^2 | |
| Unit weight of brick | =20 KN/M^3 |
| Dead load of wall | =0.92X 20 |
| =18.4KN/M |
Dead load of wall on first floor
| Area of the wall | =0.23 x 3.5 |
| =0.805 M^2 | |
| Unit weight of brick | =20 KN/M^3 |
| Dead load of wall | =0.805X 20 |
| =16.1KN/M |
Total dead load of the wall on ground floor and first floor=34.5 KN/M
LIVE LOAD CALCULATIONS
Live load of residential building is given in Table 1 of IS 875 part2
Liveload in all rooms and kitchen= 2KN/m^2
Live load in bathroom= 2 KN/m^2
Store room, terrace and staircase= 3 KN/m^2
WIND LOAD CALCULATIONS
Hight of the building in bet ween = 4+ 3.5 =7.5M
Hight is less than 10m so that wind load calculation not needed
