Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
- Vastu shastra is the ancient indian science of architecture and acts as a guideline to design your home in the way that enhances positive energy.
- Our nature is abundant with powerhouses of energy sources like the sun, wind, moon, water, earth and fire.
- Effects of sunrays, flow of winds, pull of earth’s magnetic field and other such cosmic energies
- A good home needs to radiate the right kind of energy.A person dwelling in a house comes under the influence of a specific energy field.Architectural changes are not possible for a ready to move in house.
- Preferable direction for entrance is north, east can be preferred.
- North west is ideal for living rooms.
- Idols are placed in north east
- South east is ideal for kitchen
- South west is ideal for storage.
- Significance of four directions:
- Four cardinal directions are north, south, east and west.
- Four intercardinal directions are north-east, north-west, south-east and south-west.
- Each direction signifies an aspect of life and is governed by various gods.
- North - wealth
- South - Dharma
- West and east - overall prosperity
2.Basic principle of vastu shastra:
- Shape: Rooms should preferably be square or rectangular.
- Room basics: Room should be airy, well lit, bright and clean.
- Home centre: Centre of the house should be an empty space.
- Stairs and furniture: Heavy furniture should be kept in the south-west direction.
- Water: Avoid keeping paints and water features in the bedroom.
- Dining table: Dining space should be near the kitchen and not near the main door.
- Mirror placement: Mirror facing the bed is strictly not allowed. Mirrors in the bedroom need to be placed in such a way that the bed cannot be seen.
3.Auspicious directions as per vastu shastra:
- Kitchen: South-east is the best, North-east to be avoided.
- Staircase: South-west is the best, North-east to be avoided.
- Toilet: North-west is the best, North-east to be avoided.
- Master bedroom: South west is preferred.
- Guest room: North-west is preferred.
- Living room: North-west is preferred.
- Overhead tanks: West is the best
- Underground tanks: North east is preferred, South west to be avoided.
4.List of Structural drawing to be provided are:
- Centre line drawing
- Footing and column layout with reinforcement details
- Column schedule with reinfricement details
- Plinth beam layout with reinfircement details
- First floor beam layout with reinforcement details
- First floor slab with reinforcement details
- Lift pit and headroom reinforcement details
Aim: To assume sizes of the structural element and calculate the corresponding loads from the members as per IS code
Procedure:
Column = 300mm x 300mm
Beam = 200mm x 400mm
Thikness of slab = 150mm
Wall height = 3m = 3000mm
- Dead load Calculation as per IS 875 Part 1
Unit of RCC = 25kN/m^3
Unit weight of brickwork = 20kN/m^3
Self weight of column = 0.3 x 0.3 x 3 x 25 = 6.75 kN
Self weight of beam = 0.2 x 0.4 x 25 = 2 kN
Self weight of slab = 0.15 x 25 = 3.75 kN/m^2
Self weight of wall = 0.23 x 3 x 20 = 13.8 kN/m
- Live load: as per IS 875 Part 2
Kitchen = 2 kN/m^2
Living room = 2kN/m^2
Toilet and bathroom = 2kN/m^2
Staircase = 3 kN/m^2
Store room = 3 kN/m^2
Balconies = 3 kN/m^2
Bedroom = 2 kN/m^2
- Wind load: as per IS 875 Part 3
As per IS: 875(Part 3)- 1987 the wind load is designed only when the building exceeds 10m.Here in this case the height of the building is 9m.Therefore calculation of wind load is not required.
