Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
Aim: To prepare a G+1 residential floor plan according to the vastu shastra and calculate the dead load, live load and wind load as per the IS code by assuming the sizes of the structural elements like columns, beam and slab.
Introduction:
Vaastu shastra is the ancient method of the Indian architecture of placing the rooms in particular direction for attracting the positive energy in the surrounding of the dwelling. This ensures the optimum ventialtion and light from natural source.
Basic principles of vaastu shastra
- Rooms should be preferably be square or rectangular.
- Rooms should be airy, well lit, bright and clean.
- Centre of the house should be kept empty.
- Heavy furniture should be kept in the south-west direction.
- Avoid keeping plants and water features in the bedroom.
Placement of rooms
- Kitchen should be in SE and NE to be avoided.
- Staircase should be in SW and other places are SE, S and W. NE to be avoided.
- Toilet should be in NW.
- Master bedroom is to be placed in SW.
- Guest room should be in the NW.
- For underground tank NE is the best place.
- Main entance should be placed in east, north or NE.
- Pooja room should be in East or NE part.
Plans (G + 1)
Important structural drawings for a project
- Centre line drawing
- Footing and column layout with reinforcement details
- Column schedule with reinforcement details
- Plinth beam layout with reinforcement details
- First floor beam layout with reinforcement details
- First floor slab layout with reinforcement details
- Lift pit and headroom reinforcement details
Assumptions
Column Size = 0.3m x 0.3 mx 0.45 m
Beam size = 0.3 m x 0.45 m
Slab size = 0.125 m thick
Wall size = 0.23 m
Height of wall for one floor 4.5m
Dead load:
Self-weight of column = 0.3 x0.3x 4.5 x 25 = 10.125 kN
Self-weight of beam = 0.3 x 0.45 x 25 = 3.45 kn/m
Self-weight of slab = 0.125 x 25 = 3.125 kn/m2
Self-weight of wall = 0.23 x 4.5 x 20 = 25.87 kN/m
Live load
As per IS 875 part 2
kitchen = 2.0 kN/m2
Bathroom = 2.0 kN/m2
Bedroom = 2.0 kN/m2
Living room = 2.0 kN/m2
Balcony = 3.0 kN/m2
Wind load: Since the G+1 residential building height is less than 10 m, wind load is not considered.
Result : A G+1 residential floor has been prepared and loads for the structural elements have been calculated by assuming the required values. The drawing required at the site are also mentioned.
