Objective:
- Sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.
Introduction:
According to Vaastu shastra is the Indian science of architecture and acts as guideline to design your home in the way that ensure that enhance positivity.
The source of power or energy like sun, wind, moon, earth, fire, water. The effect of these energy will give the divine energies.
The good home needs to emits the positive energy.
Architecture changes should not be possible for a ready to move houses.
Importance of Eight Direction:
The four Fundamental direction north south east and west, and four sub direction are north east, north west, south east and, south west.
Every direction indicates the part of life and is governed by almighty.
North Direction – Wealth and Career.
South Direction - Dharam existence of truth.
East – King of God and overall prosperity
West - all prosperity
Fundamental Principle of Vaastu shastra:
Shape: The geometry of room taken as square and rectangular
Room Basics: The basic room should be fresh air, proper light, clean.
Home Center: The center of the house should be spacious.
Stair and furniture: Heavy furniture should be kept in the south direction.
Water: Skip the water and plants in the bedroom.
Dining Table: This is near to be kitchen not nearer to the main gate.
Mirror placement: Mirror should avoid in the bedroom.
Auspicious directions as per Vaastu Shastra:
Kitchen:
Preferred the best direction in the south east.
Not Preferred to the direction in the north east.
Staircase:
Preferred the best direction in the south west.
Not Preferred to the direction in the north east.
Toilet:
Preferred the best direction in the north west
Not Preferred to the direction in the north east
Master bedroom
Preferred the best direction in the south west.
Guest room
Preferred the best direction in the north west
Overhead tank
Preferred the best direction in the west.
Underground tank
Preferred the best direction in the north east
Not Preferred to the direction in the south west.
Gate of the house
It is a main entrance of the gate not only for come and go it’s based on the energy of the pure soul.
It should be big in size and light in color and made of teak wood.
Garbage’s bags, unwanted things and shoes should be kept away from the main door.
The main door should be constructed in a way to ensure the face of in north, east, or north east direction.
Living Room:
It is a place where all family member expand time with love and happiness.
East north or North east, north west is a preferable direction for this room.
Electronics, gadgets should be kept in south east side.
Preference of mirror should be taking place in north side.
Placing a good positive energy pictures should be put in the southern wall.
Light shades of color use like light blue, green etc.
Bed room
Bed room recommended in the south west direction.
Don’t prefer in the north east it will give the health problem.
Avoid south east in the north east because quarrel among the peoples.
Bed room should be placed in south west.
Avoid TV, Mirror, Aquarium and other disturbing things.
Use aromatic fragrance creates an oasis of clam.
Don’t sleep with you in north.
Color should be neutral and earthy shades gives positive energy.
Pooja Room
Recommended noise free room and ensure the east or north east direction for the mediation and to do pooja.
Kitchen
Keep water sink away from the gas stove.
Fridge should be placed in south west corner.
Never let your kitchen face washroom wall not share a common wall.
Courtyard
Brahmasthan is a unique feature of ancient architecture based on Vaastu shastra.
It is the center of your residence and holiest and most power full.
This is part is clutter free.

Also, assume the sizes of the structural elements (Column, Beam, Slab, etc.,) and accordingly calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code.
Steps for the G+1 building
Area of building = 132m^2
Size of ground floor = 12m x 11m
Size of first floor = 12m x 11m
Dimension of structural members: Assume a size of structural elements given in below.
Size of slab = 150mm
Size of beam = 350mm x 450mm
Size of column = 400mm x 600mm
Size of interior wall thickness = 150mm
Size of exterior wall thickness = 200mm
Rise = 300 mm
Tread = 150 mm
Depth of waist slab = 250mm
Depth of landing slab = 200mm
Unit weight of associated materials: Conforming from IS 875: Part-1
Unit weight of brick masonry = 20kN/m^3
Unit weight of RCC = 25 kN/m^3
Self-weight / Dead Load Calculations:
Slab: Slab should be always designed for the span of 1m therefore, assume size of slab as (1x1) m^2
Unit of concrete = 25kN/m^3
Dead load of slab = unit weight of concrete x thickness of slab x per meter
Dead load of slab of per meter length = 0.15 x 0.25 x 1 = 3.75 kN/m^2
Beam:
Unit of concrete = 25kN/m^3
Dead load of beam = unit weight of concrete x size of beam x per meter
Dead load of beam per meter length = 0.3 x 0.45 x 25 x 1 = 3.375 kN/m
Wall:
Thickness of external and internal wall = 0.15m
Unit weight brick masonry = 20 kN/m^3
Height of ground floor wall = 3.0 m
Dead load of ground floor wall per meter = unit weight of brick masonry x thickness of wall x height of wall = 0.15 x 3.0 x 20 x 1 = 9 kN/m
Height of first floor wall = 3.5 m
Dead load of first floor wall per meter = unit weight of brick masonry x thickness of wall x height of wall = 0.15 x 3.5 x 20 x 1 = 10.5 kN/m
Total weight of both ground floor and first floor per meter = 9 + 10.5 = 19.5 kN/m
Column:
Unit of concrete = 25kN/m^3
Height of column = (2 time of slab thickness) + height of wall for ground floor + height of wall for first floor
Dead load of column = unit weight of concrete x size of column x (2 time of slab thickness) + height of wall for ground floor + height of wall for first floor
= 25 x 0.4 x 0.6 x (2 x 0.15) + 3.0 + 3.5 = 8.3 kN
Live load Calculations: Live loads for the residential building are considered from code IS -875 Part-2, is given below
Living/Dining 2 KN/m^2
Kitchen - 2 KN/m^2
Bed Room - 2 KN/m^2
Wash Room - 2 KN/m^2
Toilet - 2 KN/m^2
Store Room - 2 KN/m^2
Terrace - 3 KN/m^2
Staircase - 3 KN/m^2
Wind load Calculations:
When the height of the building is greater than 10m then the building needs to be designed for wind load.
Here, in this case, the design of the building height of 6.5m wind load need not to be considered.
Result:
The plan of the G+1 Floor Residential Building is prepared with consideration of the Concept of Vaastu Shastra in drawing paper.
Calculations of load are recommended by IS code considerations.
