Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

AIM :

To prepare a residential plan for G+1 floor according to vaastu shastra and to calculate corresponding loads for components of house.

INTRODUCTION TO VAASTU SHASTRA :-

Vaastu Shastra :-

  • Vastu Shastra is the Ancient Indian Science of architecture and acts as a guideline to design your home in the way that enhances positive energy.
  • Our nature is abundant with powerhouses of energy sources like the Sun, Wind, Moon, Water, Earth and Fire.
  • Effect of sunrays, flow of winds, pull of earth's magnetic field and other such cosmic energies utilise properly to enhance the positive energy at home.
  • A good home needs to radiate the right kind of energy.
  • A person dwelling in a house comes under the influence of a specific energy field.
  • Architectural changes are not possible for a ready to move in house.
  • Four cardinal direction are North, South, East and West.
  • Four intercardinal direction are North-east, North-west, South-east and South-west.
  • Each direction signifies an aspect of life and is governed by various gods as per Vaastu Shatra.
  • North - Wealth
  • South - Dharma
  • West and East - Overall prosperity
  • Shape :-

Rooms should be preferably be square or rectangle.

  • Room Basics :-

Rooms should be airy, well lit, bright and clean.

  • Home center :-

Centre of the house should be an empty space.

  • Stairs and Furniture :-

Heavy furniture should be kept in the south-west direction.

  • Water :-

Avoid keeping plants and water features in the bedroom.

  • Dining Table :-

Dining space should be near the kitchen and not near the main door.

  • Mirror placement :-

Mirror facing the bed is strictly not allowed. Mirrors in the bedroom need to be placed in such a way that the bed cannot be seen.

Auspicious directions as per Vastu Shastra :-

  • Kitchen :-

South-east is the best direction fo kitchen.

North-east to be avoided.

  • Staircase :-

South-west is the best for stairs.

North-east to be avoided.

  • Toilet :-

North-west is the best.

North-east to be avoided.

  • Master Bedroom :-

South-west is the best.

  • Guest Room :-

North-west is the best.

  • Living Room :-

North-west is the best.

  • Over Head Tanks :-

West is the best.

  • Under ground Tanks :-

North-east is the best.

South-west to be avoided.

Dimesions of Ground floor:

  • Living room = 10' x 10'
  • Kitchen room = 8' x 8'
  • Bed room = 12' x 10'
  • Toilet 1 = 6' x 10'
  • Toilet 2 = 6' X 6'
  • Puja = 6' x 5'
  • Staircase = 6' x 9'

Dimensions of First floor:

  • Living room = 10' x 11'
  • Bed room 2 = 12' x 10'
  • Toilet = 6' x 10'
  • Balcony = 19' 8" x 11' 3"

Other dimensions:

  • Thickness of internal wall = 0.15m (150mm)
  • Thickness of external wall = 0.3m (300mm)
  • Thickness of slab = 0.25m (250mm)
  • Dimensions of column = 0.30 x 0.60
  • Dimensions of beam = 0.3 x 0.4
  • Height of the wall of each floor = 4m

LOAD CALCULATIONS:

Dead load of column:

Dimension of cloumn = 0.3 x 0.6

Height of column = (slab thickness x 2) + (height of wall for each floor x 2)

= (0.25 x 2)+(4 x 2) = 8.5m

Total volume of concrete = 0.3 x 0.6 x 8.5 = 1.53 m^3

as per IS 875 (part-I)

Unit weight of RCC = 25 KN/m^3

Dead load of cloumn = 25 x 1.53 = 38.25 KN

Dead load of beam:

Dimension of beam = 0.3 x 0.4

Total volume of concrete = 0.3 x 0.4 x 1 = 0.12 m^3

as per IS 875 (part-I)

Unit weight of RCC = 25 KN/m^3

Dead load of beam = 25 x 0.12 = 3 KN

Dead load of slab:

Span of 1m is always designed for slab

Hence, assume 1m x 1m size of slab

Thickness of slab = 0.25m

Density of RCC = 25 KN/m^3

Self weight of slab = 1 x 1 x 0.25 x 25 = 6.25 KN

Dead load of walls:

For external wall

Thickness = 0.3 m (300mm)

as per IS 875 (part - I)

Unit weight of brick wall = 20 KN/m^3

height of wall = 4m

Load of wall on beam = 4 x 0.3 x 20 = 24 KN

For internal wall

Thickness = 0.15 m (150mm)

as per IS 875 (part - I)

Unit weight of brick wall = 20 KN/m^3

height of wall = 4m

Load of wall on beam = 4 x 0.15 x 20 = 12 KN

Live load:

Bed room = 2KN/m^2

Living room = 2KN/m^2

Terrace = 3 KN/m^2

Toilet = 2 KN/m^2

Stair case = 3KN/m^2

Kitchen = 2KN/m^2

Pooja room = 2 KN/m^2

Wind load:

Total height of building = 4m +4m = 8m

as per IS 875 part 3

the height of building is less than the 10m

Hence, the wind load is not consider.

RESULT :-

A G+1 floor residential plan is designed as per vasstu and load claculation is done as per IS code reference.

IS 875:1987 part 1 for dead load

IS 875:1987 part 2 for live load

IS 875:1987 part 3 for wind load

IS 456:2000 for reinforced concrete
