Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

AIM:

Sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.

To assume the sizes of the structural elements (Column, Beam, Slab, etc.,) and accordingly calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code.

INTRODUCTION:

The Total Land Area considered for the Residential Plan is 12.3m x 6.3m or Approx. 75 Sq.mtr.

OBJECTIVE:

The Main Objective of this project is to Sketch a G+1 floor plan, according to Vaastu Shastra & list the names of structural drawing required at site & calculate corresponding loads from members as per IS code.

VAASTU SHASTRA REQUIREMENT/ NEEDS TO BE FOLLOWED FOR A HOUSE IN DIRECTIONS.

  • Four cardinal directions North, South, East & West
  • Four intercardinal direction North-east, North-west, South-east & South-west
  • Each direction signifies an aspect of life & is governed by various gods
  • North – Wealth
  • South – Dharma
  • West & East – Overall prosperity.

AUSPICIOUS DIRECTIONS AS PER VASTU SHASTRA:

  • Kitchen – SW is the best, NE to be avoided
  • Staircase – SW is the best, NE to be avoided
  • Toilet – NW is the best, NE to be avoided
  • Master bedroom – SW is the best,
  • Guest room – NW is the best
  • Living room – NW is the best
  • Over Head tanks – W is the best

LIST OF DRAWINGS THAT ARE MANDATORY TO THE SITE.

  • Centre line drawing
  • Footing & column layout with reinforcement details
  • Column schedule with reinforcement details
  • Plinth beam layout with reinforcement details
  • First floor slab layout with reinforcement details
  • Lift pit & headroom reinforcement details.

STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS

  • Trench Plan or Excavation Plan (according to Centreline Markings on Site)
  • Foundation Plan
  • Column Layouts
  • Plinth Beam Layouts
  • Roof Beam and Slab Layouts.

DEAD LOAD CALCULATION:

  1. Column = 300 x 300 mm

Column height = height of wall x slab thickness = 4.5 x 0.125 = 4.625 m

Column size = 300 x 300 x 4.625 cum.

Unit wt. of concrete (RCC) = 25 KN/M³

Dead load of column – total volume of concrete x unit wt. of concrete

= 0.3 x 0.3 x 4.625 x 25

= 10.40 KN.

As per design, 12 numbers of columns are provided

  1. Beam = 300 x 450 mm

Dead load of beam – total volume of concrete x unit wt. of concrete

= 0.3 x 0.45 x 25

= 3.375 KN/m.

  1. Self-weight of slab

Thickness of slab = 125mm = 0.125 m

0.125 x 25 = 3.125 KN/cum.

  1. Wall load calculation

Assume = 230mm thickness

Height of wall = 4.5m

Unit weight of brick = 20 KN/cum.

Wall load on beam = 0.23 x 4.5 x 20 = 20.7 KN/m

  1. Floor finish = 1 KN/m2

LIVE LOAD CALCULATION

i). Living room / Dining = 2 KN/m²

ii). Kitchen = 2 KN/m²

iii). Bedroom = 2 KN/m²

iv). Bath/Toilet = 2 KN/m²

v). Staircase = 3 KN/m²

WIND LOAD CALCULATION

  • Wind load shall be considered when the building height exceeds 10 m
  • Here, the building height is less than 10m, hence wind load is ignored.
  • Size of Rooms: Ground Floor

i). Living room = 3.5m x 3.35m

ii). Kitchen = 3.5m x 2.65m

iii). Master Bedroom = 4.5m x 2.65m

iv). Bath/Toilet = 1.32m x 2m

v). Study room = 4m x 1.89m

vi). Dining = 4m x 2.65m

  • Size of Rooms: First Floor

i). Master Bedroom = 4.5m x 2.65m

ii). Bath/Toilet = 1.32m x 2m iii).

iv). Bedroom = 4m x 1.89m

v). Guest room = 4m x 2.65m

vi). Terrace = 6.2m x 3.5m

Reference and IS codes used for design-

IS 875:1987, Part 1 for Dead load

IS 875:1987, Part 2 for Live load

IS 875:1987, Part 3 for Wind load

IS 456:2000, for RCC

RESULTS-

  • The Plan is prepared by the Vaastu Shastra concept considering all the principles & considerations of Vaastu Shastra.
  • The Load Calculations are done as per IS Code considerations.

CONCLUSION-

The Sketch of G+1 floor, Residential building is made, the plan consists of Master bedroom, guest room, Study room, toilets, Staircase & Terrace

The Residential plan is made by using Vaastu shastra to enhance positive energy in the home.

The Structural members is considered as per IS code, all the dimensions are in mm, Direction sign is provided.
