Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Aim :

To create new section modulus with increased strength using section from my hood design.

Section modulus :

S = I/Y

where,

S = section modulus,

I = Moment of Inertia,

Y = distance between the neutral axis and the one end of the hood

Existing section of my hood design :

in this section,

I(max) = 5.846538909e+06[mm^4]

I(min) = 2.251386021e+04[mm^4]

S=I/Y

y = 443mm

I = I(min) = 22513.86021mm^4

S = 22513.86021 mm^4 / 443 mm

S = 50.82135 mm^3

Optimized section :

in this section,

I(max) = 4.683388906e+06[mm^4]

I(min) = 5.646023212e+04[mm^4]

S=I/Y

y = 443mm

I = I(min) = 56460.23212 mm^4

S = 56460.23212 mm^4 / 443 mm

S = 127.4497 mm^3

Conclusion :

section modulus of optimized design is higher than the existing design, Hence if we increase the section area of inner panel from outer panel, the section modulus also increases. therefore, the load and strength of material is high.
