Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Calculating Section Modulus of hood section:
Before:

I = 2.873704120e+05
Y = 877.8362/2
= 438.9181
S = I/Y
= 7.8229
After:

I = 2.908863375e+05
Y = 877.8362/2
= 438.9181
S = I/Y
= 12.9185
REPORT:

-> This is basically how a section of hood looks like.
-> We created with the help of intersecting curves.
-> For that we create a datum plate with respect to the direction of impact .
-> In this case we have impact from front.
-> So, we create a datum plane exactly in the centre from the front direction.
-> Here we intersected that plane with the faces of inner and outer panel of hood.
-> That will give us this section.
-> With help of this section we measure the distance from end to end and that divided by 2 will be 'Y'.
-> For moment of inertia we use the command Section Inertia Analysis with a hollow value 0.7.
-> By that we get a value for inertia for this we use minimum inertia ('I').
-> We calculate Section modulus by the formula.
S = I/Y
-> First one would done, after that we need to adjust the section for better stability and strength.
-> Here We offset the lower panel of hood by 0.5 mm which we increase the value by a little .
-> And, again we calculate the Section modulus by same formula.
-> We have two different values which are 7.8229 and 12.9185 which are first and second values respectively.
-> We can observe that the section modulus increased bit by changing the design and thus stability and strength of that particular part increases.
