Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Moment of Inertia in Mechanical Engineering:
The section modulus of the cross-sectional shape is of significant importance in designing beams. It is a direct measure of the strength of the beam. A beam that has a larger section modulus than another will be stronger and capable of supporting greater loads.
It includes the idea that most of the work in bending is being done by the extreme fibres of the beam, ie the top and bottom fibres of the section. The distance of the fibres from top to bottom is therefore built into the calculation.
The elastic modulus is denoted by Z. To calculate Z, the distance (y) to the extreme fibres from the centroid (or neutral axis) must be found as that is where the maximum stress could cause failure.

Calculating the Section Modulus:
formula S = I/y
S = Section Modulus
I = Moment of Inertia
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object

Y = 878.57040030932/2
= 439.28520015466 mm
I = 1.386614617e+04
S = I/y
S = 1.386614617e+04/ 439.28520015466
= 31.56524 mm
after 0.5 mm Incresed from the hood outer panel.

I = 1.093139192e+04
Y = 878.57040030932/2
= 439.28520015466 mm
S = I/y
= 1.093924720e+04 / 439.28520015466
S = 24.9023mm
Conclusion:
I am felt that the middle portion of the hood is week so Calculate the section modulus I took middle portion as section then I took starting threshold value (I) and I took half of the distance(y) at mid portion then I did section modulus calculation. then I increased my hood inner panel for 0.5mm from the outer panel then I did same section modulus calculation, I got diffrent value 6.6629mm from the parent model then my Realized that my Parent model is stronger.
