Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Section 1:

Using intersection curve and a datum plane, a section is generrated and moment of inertia is calculated as shown below:

The distance between ends is measured as 876.8mm. Therefore distance from neutral axis, y=876.81/2=438.40

Section Modulus for the first section is S=I/y =8.99*(10^6)/438.40 = 20.51*10^3 mm^3 taking the maximum value of MOI.

Section Modulus for the first section is S=I/y =2.89*(10^6)/438.40 = 6.59*10^3 mm^3 taking the minimum value of MOI.

SECTION 2:

The spine was readjusted to take maximum possible area inside. Also selection of curves was done in such a way that outermost curve was taken to include maximum possible area. As the area increases, scetion modulus value should also increase. Though the MOI value didn't increased drastically, still the altreations produced a good amount of increament in MOI value.

Section Modulus for the second section is S=I/y =8.98*(10^6)/438.40 = 20.48*10^3 mm^3 taking the maximum value of MOI.

Section Modulus for the second section is S=I/y =2.95*(10^6)/438.40 = 6.73*10^3 mm^3 taking the minimum value of MOI.

There is an increase of 0.14*10^3 mm^3 in section modulus in case 2 than case 1
