Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section modulus is the depicit of the resistance to the bending by a cross section. It is mathematicaly defined as the ratio of area moment of inertia to the distance b/w neutral axis and the outer most layer of the section.
Area moment of inertia is the inertia to resist bending.
Here in the contest of BIW or particularly the hood design the section modulus is taken as a key parameter to relate the strength of the component. So a detailed study of the section modulus is done over here which helps to improve the strength of the section.
In NX CAD there is a facility to analyse the section modules of the hood which we have designed here I'm showing the section modulus analysis of my hood
This is the current section modules of my hood assembly. This section modules is taken at the exact center of the hood considering the frontal impact point od view.
In order to improve the section modules we could increase the number of emboss or increase the depth of inner panel without increasing the weight or change the material. So here is another way where I improved my section moduless just by offsetting the surfaces the screenshot is provided her.
