Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Section Modulus of Hood

The section of Modulus can be derived from the given Equation:

Where,

M= Bending moment of Inertia.

I=Area moment of Inertia.

Y=Distance from the Neutral Axis.

E=Modulus of Elasticity.

R=Radius curvature.

Now,

It can be written as

Existing Hood Section Modulus.

The Section Modulus of Existing hood is 0.0107 mm.

Improved Cros-Section

The Section Modulus of Improved hood is 0.0108 mm.

Conclusion: Since the Area moment of Inertia and Neutral Axis distance being increased in the improved hood. The Section Modulus is found to be increased.
