Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Moment of Inertia: The moment of inertia is a measure of an object's resistance to changes in its rotational motion around a particular axis. It quantifies how mass is distributed within an object or a cross-sectional shape. The moment of inertia is denoted by the symbol "I."
The section modulus is a property of a cross-sectional shape that measures its ability to resist bending. It is commonly used in structural engineering and design to determine the strength and stiffness of beams, columns, and other structural members. The section modulus represents the distribution of material around the neutral axis of the cross-section and is denoted by the symbol "S."
The section modulus can be calculated using the following equation:
S = (I / y)
Where:
S is the section modulus I is the moment of inertia of the cross-section about the neutral axis.
y is the distance from the neutral axis to the extreme fiber (also known as the "centroidal distance").

The above section is the hood mid-surface. The claculations were done on NX software, "Section Inertia Analysis" tool was used to get the results with cross-section of 0.75mm. Make sure to close the sketch to form a single closed loop.
Dividing the minimum MOI With max fibre distance i.e 440 mm we get:
Section Modulus,Z1=5.268590e+2 mm^3
Z2=6.5183e+2 mm^3
The Section Modulus have be improved due to:
1) Increase in thickness of the sheet.When the thickness of the cross-section is increased, the moment of inertia increases, resulting in a higher section modulus. This is because a greater amount of material is distributed farther away from the neutral axis, which enhances the bending resistance.
2) Increasing section-area by design modifications.
3) By optimizing the distribution of material in the cross-section, with more material away from the neutral axis and less material near it, the overall stiffness and resistance to bending of the structure are improved. This leads to a higher section modulus and enhances the structural performance and strength of the component or beam.
