Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section Modulus Comparison
For this challenge we took into consideration the hood that was designed in the previous challenge. The section profile was developed by taking into consideration the hood design. After the first calculation for section modulus we completed, we tweaked the section profile in a certain way that is explained below and recalulated the section modulus for the newer section.
First Scenario: No modification to section profile
Here we took the exact profile of the section of the hood as shown in the below image.

I = Moment of Inertia = 2.6084e+5 mm^4
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object = 886.6759 mm
S = I/y = 293.5 mm^3
Second Scenario: Modification performed to the section profile
Here we modified the section profile of the existing hood such that the lower section, which mainly consisted of the profile of the inner panel as given a 1.5 mm outward offset. This led to the increase in the valus of moment of inertia of the entire section.
Here
I = Moment of Inertia = 2.7555e+5 mm^4
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object = 886.6759 mm (Samea as no change was done to the sectional width)
S = I/y = 310.767 mm^3
From the result it is preety clear that with the modification performed increased the section modulus. We can optimize this further by performing more study and test runs of section with different profile geometry.
