Section Modulus calculation and optimization
SECTION MODULUS:
Section Modulus is defined as the Material's ability to resist bending. It is mostly used for Structural Elements like Beams, BIW, and Building Elements.
Section Modulus is represented by S.
Section Modulus can be calculated by the Formula - S = I/Y,
Where I is the Area of Moment of Inertia and Y is the Length of the Fiber from the Neutral axis.
Section Modulus is Directly linked to the Thickness and Area of the Cross Section of the Part, As it Directly increases the Structural Strength.
SECTION MODULUS OF THE HOOD: (Design 1)

From the NX, We found that the Area of Moment of Inertia for the Hood (Design 1) is
Max= 8.17223X10^5mm^4
Min= 5.501X10^3mm^4
Y= 487.3987/2 = 243.69935 mm
so the Corresponding Section Modulus is,
Smax= 3353.4 mm^3
Smin= 22.57 mm^3
So, For the improvement of the Section Modulus of the Hood, the Hood Inner has been Offset for 1.5mm and then Re-evaluated.
SECTION MODULUS OF THE HOOD: (Design 2 - Improved)

From the NX, We found that the Area of Moment of Inertia for the Hood (Design 1) is
Max= 8.19143X10^5mm^4
Min= 5.711X10^3mm^4
Y= 487.3987/2 = 243.69935 mm
so the Corresponding Section Modulus is,
Smax= 3361.2 mm^3, Higher than Design 1.
Smin= 23.43 mm^3, Higher than Design 1.
Summary:
The Increased Section Modulus of the New Hood (Design 2) states that the Part's ability to withstand Load without Bending Has increased.
