REVIT_Usage of Collabrate tool_Week 6

Question 1: Open an architectural template . Using Manage tab set project base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

Aim: To use the manage tab to set the base point and project shared coordinates for the project.

Procedure:

Step 1: go to file open and create a new architectural template. Save the file with a proper name. I saved it as Shafaqat week 6 Architecture.

Step 2: Go to the Architecture tab, Click on grid to create the longitudinal and transverse grids with specific names. Like longitudinal Numbered as “A” and transverse as “1”.

Step 3: Go to Manage Tab, select the Coordinate option, click on the Specify coordinates at Point Option. After selecting the option we are able to set the coordinates of the grids.

Step 4: select one grid , a window appears for set its coordinate. Set the coordinate as 0’.

Similarly select the another grid and set the coordinate as 0’.

Result: The base coordinates were set as 0’ for each grid.

Question 2: Open another new file but with structural template. Using manage tab set project parameters same as architectural model. Copy the parameters from architectural model to the structural template or enter the parameters manually to the structural model.

Aim: To set the parameters of a new Structural template same as the architectural model.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to file option, select New option to create a new Structural Template.Save the Structural model with proper name. I saved it as Shafaqat week 6 Structural.

Step 2: Go to the Structural Tab, select Grid option to create the grids.

Create the horizontal grid as A and the vertical as 1.

Step 3: We can either copy the parameters from the Architectural Model or we can we can create manually by using the manage Tab. Go to Manage Tab, select the Coordinate option, click on the “Specify coordinates at Point” Option. After selecting the option we are able to set the coordinates of the grids.

Step 4: select one grid , a window appears for set its coordinate. Set the coordinate as 0’.

Similarly select the another grid and set the coordinate as 0’.

Result: the parameter of the grids were set as 0’.

Question 3: Re-open the architectural model. Using the tools under Collaborate tab make the architectural model as a central model ( enabling simultaneous working on the model ).

Aim: To make the Architecture model as a central file in collaborate.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to the File option, Select the open option to open the Architectural file already created in previous question.(Shafaqat week 6 architecture).

Step 2: Select on the collaborate Tab, click on collaborate option.

Another window appears to select collaborate within the network based on the project. We select the first option and click ok.

Step 3: Save the file, a window appears for saving the file as central file , click ok.

Result: The Architectural Model is successfully created as a central file.

Question 4: Create the Grids Longitudinal and Transverse pattern for the project similar to the task done in Week 2.

Aim: To create the longitudinal and transverse grid patterns.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to the file option, create a new architectural template file.

Step 2: Go to the Architecture Tab, click on the grid option to create the grids.

Step 3: After selecting the grid option, create the longitudinal and transvers grids at equal distances each other. I select the distance as 24’.

Step 4: Rename the created grids as per schedule grids are named as A,B,C,D. And the longitudinal grids as 1,2,3,4.

Result: The pattern is given as

Question 5: Synchronize the changes from the local copy to the central file of architectural model.

Aim: To synchronize the changes from the local file to central file of Architectural model.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to the File option, click on the open option to open an existing Architectural file.

Step 2: Go to the Collaborate Tab , Click on the synchronize with central option, Select the ist option (Synchronize and modify option).

A window appears with central model location. Click ok.

Result: It synchronizes from local file to the Central file.

Question 6: Open the structural model and using collaborate tools save the model as central file.

Aim: to open an existing Structural and save it as a central File.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to the File option< click on the open option to open an existing structural file.I opened Shafaqat week 6 structural.

Step 2: Go to the Collaborate tab, click on the collaborate option.

Another window appears to select collaborate within the network based on the project. We select the first option and click ok.

Step 3: save the file , a window appears to save it as a central file.

Result: The Structural file is successfully created as central file.

Question 7: Under Collaborate tab, select the grids and levels from architectural model and using Copy Monitor try to copy the grids to structural model. See what happens when the copy monitored grid is moved around in the structural model.

Aim: To Copy the grids and levels from Architectural model into the Structural Model

Procedure:

Step 1: open the Architectural Model which is linked with the Structural File.

Step 2: Go to the Architectural Tab, click on the Collaborate, click on the Copy/Monitor option. Click on the Select Link option .

Step 3: Select the the grids and copy them.

Step 4: After copying, click on the Finish. After finishing the grids will be copied in the structural file.

Result: Open the Structural template which is linked with the Architectural file. We found grids there in the structural file.

Question 8: Create another new file with construction template. Save the new file as central model. This file will include both architectural and structural model. Under manage tab, Click manage links to link both architectural and structural files. Save the file and close all the files.

Aim: To create a new construction template and link Architectural and structural files with it.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to file option, click on the new to create a new Construction template.Save the file with appropriate name (shafaqat week 6 construction).

Step 2: Go to collaborate tab, click on collaborate option.

A window appears with two options, choose the ist option collaborate within your network for the security purpose. And click ok.

Step 3: Save the file again, a window appears to save it as a central file.

Step 4: Go to the Manage Tab, click on Manage Links option.

Step 5: A window appears with the option to add the required files to link with the existing construction file. Click on the Add option to add the Architectural and Structural files with the construction file.

After adding Architecture and Structural files, click ok.

Result: The Architectural and the structural files were linked with the constructional file, where constructional file is a host file and the architectural file and the structural file are linked files.

Question 9: Are the grids from structural and architectural model matching in the construction template created ? If yes the model is set up for project 2. If not work on the shared parameters and linking options under Manage links
( Hint : origin to origin, by shared coordinates or by project base point to base point ) to link the models in appropriate manner

Sol: No, the grids are not matching. We have to set the matching by using the mange tab.

Aim: To set the Shared parameters for matching purpose between the linked templates.

Procedure:

Step 1: open the host file i.e, the constructional template which links the architectural and structural models.

Step 2: Also we can check the distance between the grids by using the aligned option from annotate. The difference between the grids is 13’ and 5’.

Step 3: Go to the manage Tab, Click on the Position option, click on the Relocate project option to set the positions between the grid systems.

Result: The Grids has matched perfectly.

Question 10: List a flow chart of a project tree set up in terms of Construction model, Architecture & Structure model, in this exercise and understand how many people can work on the same project using Revit simultaneously.

Sol: The flow chart is given below as

  • Here the construction model acts as a host and the architectural and structural models acts as a linked files.
  • Three persons can work simultaneously, one will work in Architectural model, one will work in Structural model and the another in constructional model.
