REVIT_ Scheduling & Estimation_Week 9
Question 1: Use the shortcut keys in Revit discussed in class to complete the following tasks and list them below
a. Using 3D model create a section box.
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout.
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view.
f. To select the previously selected items.
g. To add annotations to the model views.
h. To bring the model elements in line.
i. To rotate the model elements.
j. To move an object to another location.
k. To copy a model element.
l. To mirror an element about an axis.
m. To create an array of model elements
Ans: Shortcut keys in Revit are as:
- Using 3D model create a section box- BX
- To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout- CS
- To reduce the thickness of the lines visible in plan views- TL
- To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view- EOD
- To increase the range of the visibility in a plan view- VR
- To select the previously selected items- Ctrl+<
- To add annotations to the model views-DI
- To bring the model elements in line-AL
- To rotate the model elements-RO
- To move an object to another location-MV
- To copy a model element-CO/CC
- To mirror an element about an axis-MM
- To create an array of model elements-AR
Question 2: Using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood
Aim: To prepare the schedule for the walls, doors, windows, Materials etc.
Procedure:
Step 1: Go to the File option and open an existing Architecture/ Structural file.
Step 2: Go to the View Toolbar, select the Schedules option, click on the Schedule/Quantities option to schedule the properties for the walls, windows, etc.
Step 3:A window appears to select the components which we want to schedule, like walls, windows, doors, columns, beams etc. I select the walls.
Step 4: Another window appears to set the properties like area, volume, type, etc. and click ok.
Then a schedule has been set for the walls.
Step 5: Similarly make an another schedule for the doors, windows, concrete etc.
Result:
Wall Schedule:
Doors Schedule:
Windows Schedule:
Question 3: Using Revit Calculate area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room.
Aim: To prepare a schedule to calculate the area and volume of each room
Procedure:
Step 1: Open an existing Revit file, go to the View toolbar, click on the schedule/Quantities.
Step 2: A window appears to set new schedule, select the Rooms option. And click ok.
Step 3: A window appears to add the properties like name, area, volume. And click ok.
A schedule for the area and volume of each room has been created.
Result:
Question 4: Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available in the internet, prepare total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Take off
Aim: To prepare a schedule for the total cost of the materials used in the project.
Procedure:
Step 1: Open an existing Revit file. Go to the View Toolbar, click on the Schedule option, select the Material Take off option.
Step 2: A window appears to add the properties like material name, type, area, volume, material cost. And click ok. And set the formula for the total cost based on the cost of the material. And the schedule will be created.
Similarly we can prepare a schedule for the wall material take off and the other components.
Result:
We can schedule other material take offs as similar.
Question 5: Using the concept of Visual Programming discussed in class, list a flowchart for the following scenario
a. How to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo ?
b. If there is no water coming from the pipes
c. If request for money from client has been declined for the project
Ans:
- Flow chart for framing the structure using Dynamo
- Flow Chart for the Pipes when no water is coming.
- Flow chart for request for money from clients which has been declined for the project

- Material used
- Length
- Height
- Width
Floor:
- Types of floor
- Length
- Width
- Area
- Thickness
- Volume
Door:
